News: Hoops of Hope Free Throw Fundraiser on Aug. 27 to Benefit Children in Africa

(Aug. 9, 2011) - Last year the local Hoops of Hope raised $19,600 for children in Africa and this year's event scheduled for Aug. 27 at 4 p.m. at Eagle Ridge Middle School in Ashburn is looking to beat that number.

The free throw shooting event raises funds for children who have been orphaned by HIV and AIDS in Africa. Over the past five years, Hoops of Hope participants worldwide have raised over 2 million dollars. The money raised by participants has gone to sponsor over 100 orphans, fund a water project in Kenya and build a high school and two medical clinics in Zambia.

News: Golf Tournament to Benefit Loudoun County Community Holiday Coalition's Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program

(June 20, 2011) - Help for Others, a local nonprofit organization, is sponsoring a golf tournament at the River Creek Club to benefit the Loudoun County Community Holiday Coalition'€™s €"Neighbors Helping Neighborsâ€" program. The tournament will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011, with a shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m. The club is located in the River Creek Community at 43800 Olympic Boulevard, Leesburg.

Cross Country: Joe Cassella 5K Scheduled for May 15 in Great Falls

(Mar. 30, 2011) - The Joe Cassella Foundation is proud to extend Viva Loudoun an invitation to participate and sponsor the Joe Cassella 5K on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Great Falls Village Center in Great Falls, VA.

The Joe Cassella Foundation is a non-profit organization based out of Leesburg with a mission to offer financial assistance to the families of less fortunate children affected by a medical condition, to reduce the stress of financial concerns related to serious illness and injury, and allow them to better focus on supporting their child.

This year, the race will benefit Gracie Sweet, a 16-month old baby who has an inoperable brain tumor, and the funds raised will be used to cover her medical expenses. The 5K Run/Walk is expected to draw 1,000 participants from the Washington DC Metro area, who will gather for a great cause and enjoy a day of fitness and fun.

News: True Spirit of Competition and Community - Upper Loudoun Youth Football Teams Stock Local Food Pantry

Purcellville (Sept. 30, 2010) - There is winning on the field and then there is winning off the field. The Upper Loudoun Youth Footbal League gives us a great example of a spirit of competition that benefits the community as teams in the league have raced each other to donate the most food to local food pantry, the Tree of Life.

A harsh economy left the food pantry's shelves nearly empty after the summer but the players and parents in the football league have already given almost 10,000 pounds of food -- reaching their season goal of giving in just three weeks. And they aren't stopping now.

News: VivaLoudoun Signs on as a Founding Sponsor for Team Joe Charity

(Sept. 3, 2010) - VivaLoudoun has signed on as a Team Joe Founder for the local charity golf event that has raised $75,000 the past three years with all proceeds benefiting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Fairfax Hospital for Children.

VivaLoudoun was one of three businesses to pledge $5,000 to the charity this week. Bill Thomas of Keller Williams Realty and the Fairfax Neonatal Associates -- the team that took care of the charity's namesake, Joe Petrella, who spent 104 days in the NICU at Fairfax Hospital -- also joined as Team Joe Founders.

Previous Team Joe Founders include United bank, Cheers Sports, Loudoun Valley Floors, and Dr. Chad Parsons.

It has been a busy time for the Team Joe event with many sponsors joining at various levels including BB&T Wealth Management and the Katelyn Hall Foundation as Ace Sponsors ($1,000 of support); and Loudoun Girls Little League Softall and Spanky's Shenanigans Pub as Eagle sponsors ($500). (Apr. 3, 2010) - The Park View High School alumni will be hosting the Broad Run alumni on April 10 at 2 p.m. in a charity basketball game.
