Football: You Pick'Em Week 3 Results: Upsets Means Nobody is Perfect but a Dozen Pickers Finish Week 7-1

(Sept. 13, 2011) - Ahhh  the upsets of Week 3. Not many of you had Potomac Falls winning at Woodgrove AND Stone Bridge falling in a regular season contest for the first time since the forward pass. So out of 106 fans playing this week, nobody went 8-0 but a dozen players were a respectable 7-1.

And going to the tiebreaker, Almost Heaven from Charles Town was the winner ... well Almost Heaven1 as we have not one but two fans ... both from Charles Town and both with the Almost Heaven moniker!

Almost Heaven had Loudoun County winning 35-14 which was close to the 32-19 final. Just one point back in the tiebreaker were: The Flamingo Kid from Ashburn; Cocky Bobcat from Ashburn; The Spartan from Ashburn: and Playballmb from Leesburg. Just two points back was TBurke1 of Leesburg.

And also finishing 7-1 on the week: Ace of Purcellville; Elite '95 of Ashburn; JungleJane of Ashburn; Spartans#1 of Ashburn; SteveD of Ashburn; and WeaselVT of Brambleton.

Our LoCo Experts also couldn't find perfection as only Sean Farrell of the Ashburn Patcha nd Matt Fetters of Verizon FiOS1 went 7-1. On the year, there is a 3-way tie in the media race betwen Matt Brooks of the Washington Post, Andy Hayes of Gameday Magazine and Carl Lukat of the Loudoun Times-Mirror.

For the fans season-long money race, we have a clear No. 1 right now with The Spartan of Ashburn a cool 22-2 after three weeks. Sitting one game back are BallCoach 9 of Leesburg, Big Daddy of Leesburg and Burke1 of Leesburg. A total of 161 fans have played the contest so far.

Football: Two Experts and Six Fans Go Perfect in Week 1 of VivaLoudoun You Pick'Em Contest!

(Aug. 30, 2011) - Week One of you You Pick'Em football contest with only two experts -- Matt Brooks of the Washington Post and Andy Hayes of Gameday Magazine -- going perfect and only six of 102 fans coming home with an 8-0 mark.

Of the fans, the t-shirt winner for Week One is "The Spartan of Ashburn" as they had 42-14 as the tiebreaker which was close enough to the 51-7 Broad Run win over Park View for the win!

Our Beat the LoCo Experts panel has expanded this year with 11 total media members representing eight different outlets playing for their favorite charity. We will detail the charities of each media member later this week. Please check back later Tuesday night as we put out the form to pick the games for Week 2 which starts on Thursday with Stone Bridge at Robinson!

Beat the LoCo Experts: Briar Woods Comeback in State Finals Gives Kip Shallis the Season Win!

(Dec. 22, 2010) - Fittingly enough, in the race for the big prize ($100) in our Beat the LoCo Experts football picks contest, it came down to the final game of the year, the VHSL Division 4 state title game between Briar Woods and Harrisonburg, as Michael of Ashburn battled Plankster of Ashburn for the sweepstakes.

And it was Michael -- better known as Briar Woods teacher and Potomac Falls JV boys basketball coach Kip Shallis! -- who pulled out the win as he naturally had the Falcons and Plankster -- better known as Stone Bridge baseball coach Sam Plank -- had Harrisonburg.

"Make sure to mention my Briar Woods Falcons were the team that won it for me over Plank," said Shallis when reached for comment on the historic win.

It was a great year for our contest with 150 locals going up against the LoCo's and VivaLoudoun Editor Dan "The Fix is In" Sousa won the experts contest ... just nosing ahead of Loudoun Times-Mirror sports editor Carl "Kind of All Loudoun Media" Lukat.

We had four pickers go 2-0 in the final week with Christopher Robin of South Riding beating AJJ of Ashburn, Opie of Leesburg, PVfootball of Sterling and Tim of Potomac Falls in the tiebreaker. In fact, Christopher Robin was almost on the money, calling Briar Woods' 41-21 win as 31-18 and the Phoebus 36-17 win as 33-20 ... can we hire you next year Mr. Robin!

Beat the LoCo Experts: Final Exam Time! Final Week of Our Contest!

(Dec. 10, 2010) - You have crammed all year for this ... your one shining moment ... the final week of the Beat the LoCo Experts contest.

No more Kaplan Beat the LoCo Experts courses to take or Dummies for Beat the LoCo Experts books to read or one-on-one tutoring sessions with The Oracle.

Time to pick the final 2 games ... tough state title games with Briar Woods and Stone Bridge looking to bring back championships to Loudoun.

In the experts race, VivaLoudoun editor Dan Sousa holds onto a slim lead over Carl "King of All Loudoun Media" Lukat of the LTM. Sousa has the advantage of running the contest and thus has fixed it so he will win.

In the fans race, Michael of Ashburn, maintains a 1-game lead over Plankster of Ashburn ... with the winner getting $100 in cash (or whatever is behind door No. 3 ... it is your very own Llama!).

Last week ... we all bombed so to speak as nobody had Briar Woods scoring close to 52 points and everybody had high-powered Osbourn scoring at least some points against Stone Bridge! Easy E of Sterling earned the not so easy win with picks of 30-7 Briar Woods and 24-20 Stone Bridge (we told you it was a tough week!) ... that left Easy E with a t-shirt, just edging Big Daddy H of Leesburg (who we believe wins just about everything in his "night job" ...).

The fine print: We recently celebrated our one millioneath typo on VivaLoudoun ... make that 1,000,001 and counting ... Not really sure why I always got an orange in my stocking each Christmas. Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Playoff Week 3 - Michael of Ashburn Takes One Game Lead!

(Dec. 3, 2010) - Our contest is down to the final two weeks of the season with Michael of Ashburn going 2-0 last week to take over first place by himself in the race for $100 (holiday spending money!). Plankster of Ashburn can climb back in it with two games to pick this week!

On the Experts side, they were mostly LoCo for Broad Run last week and that cost them as Carl Lukat of the LTM pulled into second by himself, one game behind VivaLoudoun editor Dan Sousa who has vowed: "I will win this contest .. heck I run the contest so I can fix it so that I win ... if I don't win this contest ... that would be about as crazy as Qatar getting the 2022 World Cup ... what?!?"

So play on ... it is state semifinal time and this week you have to pick the final scores for both games! Good luck!

Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Playoff Week 3 - Still a Tie at the Top for the "Big Money"

(Nov. 24, 2010) - We are getting down to crunch time in the Beat the LoCo Experts football picks contest. At the top of our fans leaders chart, Plankster and Michael, both from Ashburn, continue to hold the lead in the race for $100.

They are both 84-15 on the season after going 5-0 last week. They were just two of 18 fans that went unbeaten in this playoff week with Joe of Leesburg taking home the t-shirt as he had the closest tiebreaker score (21-14 Warren County in the actual 14-0 win with most of you thinking it would be a high-scoring affair and none of you saw the Pats getting shut out!) ...

Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Playoff Week 2 - Stats Man Had the Right Numbers Last Week

(Nov. 18, 2010) - "Stats Man" of Ashburn had all the right numbers last week and opponents can only be glad that he joined the Beat the LoCo Experts in just the last two weeks as he is a perfect 13 for 13 in the picks.

There were eight pickers with perfect 6-0 records last week but Stats Man had the closest score in the tiebreaker, picking Broad Run, 34-27 over Sherando, and that one point off of Sherando's 26 total in the 49-26 score was the difference.

Also perfect: aj (ashburn), BMack (sterling), Janice (Sterling), Nicole (Ashburn), PVfootball (Sterling), sb1225 (Ashburn) and Tim (Potomac Falls).

In the Experts pool, Viva Editor Dan Sousa put his faith in the local teams and only a late touchdown by Warren County prevented him from a 6-0 week -- he did extend his lead over Moe Murphy of Clarke County Sports from one to two games.

Sousa, however, is still one game behind the two fans tied at the top for the $100 grand prize -- Plankster of Ashburn and Michael of Ashburn were both 5-1 and now both 79-15 on th year. Will this week give us a clearcut favorite? Play below ... and see the updated standings below.

Beat the LoCo Experts: The Plankster Ain't Prankster When it Comes to Picking Winners

(Nov. 10, 2010) - For the second straight week and fourth time this season, Sam of Ashburn, took home a coveted VivaLoudoun T-Shirt as he tied for the top picks last week about 62 players.

Sam -- who switched his/her nickname to Plankster last week, but they can't fool us, the prankster -- tied for the week with Justin of Harrisonburg (who we have known since he was in Winnie the Pooh Preschool in Ashburn .. and we have the photos to prove it but will spare the poor kid!) as they both went 7-0 and had the tiebreaker of Briar Woods over Dominion, 35-14.

Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Week 10 Winners - 30 Players are Perfect but Sam of Ashburn Hits it Out of the Park

(Nov. 4, 2010) - You have done your homework well football fans ... so well, that 30 fans were a perfect 7-0 last week but only one can wear the coveted VivaLoudoun t-shirt ... and that person will be wearing at least three t-Shirts as Sam of Ashburn wins for the third time this season.

While the rest of the perfect 7-0 fans expected undefeated McLean to do a little better against Stone Bridge, Sam of Ashburn had the tiebreaker score at 42-0 and the final was 38-0. For Sam the win moves him back into a tie with Michael of Ashburn for first place in the race for $100.

Even though this is the last regular season week, we will keep playing until the last Loudoun team packs up its gear!

Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Week Nine Winners - 3 Fans Go 9-0! Play Week 10!

(Oct. 28, 2010) - The stakes are higher than ever in our Beat the LoCo Experts football picks contest as we actually have t-shirts -- real, not imaginary, mind you -- to give away to our winners each week.

Heck, we are so dang proud of our new t-shirts that we are giving one away to each of the three fans that went 9-0 last week - Clay of Sterling, Easy E of Sterling and ValleyVikes2011 of Lovettsville ... congrats to all three!

The overall winner of our contest will win $100! To date, Michael of Ashburn now sits alone in first, just one game ahead of Sam of Ashburn.

Beat the Loco Experts: Michael of Ashburn Wins Last Week and Moves Into a Tie for First

(Oct. 22, 2010) - Michael of Ashburn has moved into a tie for first place with Sam of Ashburn for the overall $100 grand prize in our Beat the LoCo Experts football picks contest.

Both of the Ashburn pickers are 53-12 on the season and beating the experts, who are led by Michael "Moe" Murphy who has been on fire ... going 17-0 the last two weeks to improve to 52-13 overall.

There were four perfect players last week including Big Daddy H of Leesburg, Coop of Ashburn and Sarah of Winchester ... but Michael with his 28-20 final prediction of Loudoun County over Dominion was just off of the 27-21 final. Big Daddy H just missed at 30-24. Sarah had 19-9 and Coop had 38-18.

Beat the Loco Experts: Week 6 Winner is "Almost Heaven"

(Oct. 8, 2010) - Last week's winner in the Beat the LoCo Experts football picks contest was "Almost Heaven" from Charles Town WV with a 6-1 week that was nearly devine.

Almost Heaven was one of eight players with a 6-1 mark but their tiebreaker pick was almost on the money as they picked Briar Woods to win, 21-14, just two points off the 20-13 final! Almost Heaven will win a VivaLoudoun t-shirt ... which we will pick up tomorrow from Cheers Sports! Finally!

(Oct. 7, 2010) - We know. We know. We are late this week with the Beat the LoCo Experts football picks contest ... quite frankly, the Briar Woods win blew our super computer and we are still trying to figure out the Week 6 winner but that doesn't mean we can't start picking for Week 7!

So here you go ... check back later tonight as we will post the Week 6 winners and also the season-to-date records ... it shouldn't take too long as we just saw the VivaLoudoun Fox with his old abacus and some duck tape ...

Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Week Five Winners! A Perfect 10 as Double Digit Fans Go Undefeated

(Sept. 30, 2010) - What do Spartan Super Fan (Ashburn), Illini Karen (Ranson WV), LJGA (Potomac Falls), MachineGunKelly (Broadlands), Coach Choppy (Stephens City), Tim (East Carolina), Ed (Sterling), HSFootballFan (Lovettsville), Sam (Ashburn) and TBonz (Ashburn) all have in common?

They were perfect last week in our Beat the LoCo Experts football picks contest but we can only have one winner of the much sought after (they are actually being printed this week!) VivaLoudon t-shirts and that goes to Sam of Ashburn who not only got every pick right but guessed the exact final score of Broad Run's 42-21 win over Park View. (Below you can see Sam's picks and all the picks from last week when we had a record 70 fans play.)

Our experts also had a good week with Carl Lukat of the Loudoun Times-Mirror, Dan Sousa of VivaLoudoun and Moe Murphy of Clarke County Sports all go 7-0. Lukat (Dean of Loudoun Media) leads Sousa by one game and Murphy by two in the media standings.

Sam of Ashburn continues to hold his place on top of the fans standings and the overall leader in wins at the end of the season with get $100 from the VivaLoudoun fox! Now you can make your Week Six picks but first ...

Football: Beat the LoCo Experts - Week Four Winners!

(Sept. 23, 2010) - We had the biggest week ever in the history of the Beat the LoCo Experts with more than 50 entries last week and four fans were perfect.

With Chipper of Sterling, mr226 of Charles Town, Pitt37r of Ashburn and Wayne of South Riding all 8-0 we had to go to the video tape ... er, tiebreaker that is and Pitt37r is the winner (winner, chicken dinner) of a brand new VivaLoudoun t-shirt (disclaimer: when they are printed but guess what ... we were actually designing them this week!).

Below you can see all the fans that played and their picks. Also, check out how (poorly!) our Experts did with Jason "Ain't Nothing But a Hound Dog" Rufner going 7-1 to win the week. Carl "The Dean" Lukat of the LTM remains on top of the Experts standings (See below).

We will have the fans season to date totals up and running as soon as the VivaLoudoun Fox gets a spare part for his Super Computer (the flux capacitor is out again).
