Football: Virginia Xtreme 11U Purple Wins NFL Flag Baltimore Regional Tournament

(Nov. 6, 2012) -The Virginia Xtreme Sports 11U team (VXS Purple) won the Regional Flag Football tournament, hosted by NFL Flag and USA Football. The tournament was held on October 20th 2012 at The Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, MD.

The tournament consisted of 3 divisions 9-11 co-ed 12-14 boys and 12-14 girls and featured top teams from Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Indiana.

Baseball: New Broad Run High School District Travel 9/10U and 11/12U Teams Seeking Players

(July 17, 2012) - Two new travel baseball teams -- at the 9/10U and 11/12U are looking for players from the Broad Run High School district and will hold tryouts in August:

Youth Sports - Girls Basketball - Rising 6th Grade Teams Forming, coached by Tuscarora Varsity Coach Newkirk

(Aug. 24, 2011) - Premier Sports Performance Academy (PSPA) is having tryouts Sat. Aug. 27 and Mon. Aug. 29 for rising 6th grade girls. The head coach of the 11U team is Tuscarora High School varsity coach Michael Newkirk.

The tryouts are at the FLEXX Center in Lansdowne, 2 to 3:30 on Saturday and then at Tuscarora High School on Monday from 8 to 9 p.m. It is recommended that players make both tryouts if possible. The cost of the tryout is a one-time payment of $25.

Youth Sports: Boys Basektball - Flexx All Stars Advance Three Teams in Summer League Playoffs

(July 22, 2011) - The Flexx All Stars basketball program advanced three teams into the summer league playoffs next week in Northern Virginia.

The 11U boys Blue team and the 10U boys team both will be playing in their respective division 1 playoffs. The Flexx White team also advanced to the division 2 playoffs.

Youth Sports - Baseball - 11U Potomac Riverdogs Capture Charles Town Challenge

(Mar. 22, 2011) - The 11U Potomac Riverdogs, based in Ashburn, opened their 2011 spring baseball season by capturing the inaugural Charles Town Challenge. The Riverdogs defeated host CTRYB Freedom, 9-1 in the championship game with Michael Alba throwing a no-hitter.

The Riverdogs struggled to a 7-7 tie in their opening game of the season against the Apple Valley Athletics, but came back in their next game to defeat the Burke Bulldogs, 7-2. Lukas Rubio and Connor Gorey combined on a 1-hitter against Burke. Gorey would later blast a 3-run home run in the semifinals, as the Riverdogs blasted the Haymarket Bulls, 13-0.

In the championship game, Alba threw a no-hitter against the Freedom. Michael Apodaca secured the gem by throwing out a runner at first from right field after cleanly fielding a hard hit ball.

The Riverdogs will be back in action locally this weekend (March 25-27) as they compete in the 7th Annual Longhorn Stampede -- which brings some 70 teams from Maryland, DC, and Virginia as they compete in age groups ranging from 9 to 15, playing throughout Loudoun County.

Youth Sports - AAU Basketball Tryouts Scheduled

(Mar. 8, 2011) - AAU basketball tryouts are coming up around the county starting with the FLEXX All Stars program which will hold tryouts tonight, March 8, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. for 11U (5th grade) and 10U (4th grade) boys at the FLEXX Sports and Entertainment Center in Lansdowne.

A second tryout for 10U will be held Wed. March 9 from 5 to 6 p.m. and a second tryout for 11U will be held Thurs. March 10 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visit the FLEXX All Stars website or follow them on Facebook.
