Football: Woodgrove's Atem Ntantang to Play at Boston College

(Aug. 3, 2012) - Woodgrove High School senior Atem Ntantang has verbally committed to play football a year from now at NCAA Division I Boston College. Ntantang is a defensive back and running back but will play some at the slot this coming season under first-year head coach Mike Skinner.

 Ntantang is the first Wolverine committed to play football at a major college program. Woodgrove is entering its third year since opening in Purcellville.

The Class of 2013 now has 29 athletes already committed with the first day of school still about a month away.
   

Football: Loudoun Valley's Harrison Jackson Signs with Boston College

Purcellville (Feb. 2, 2012) - Loudoun Valley High School senior wide receiver Harrison Jackson officially signed Wednesday his National Letter of Intent to play football next year at NCAA Division I Boston College.

Jackson finished last season with 38 receptions for 735 yards and five touchdowns. He will join former Stone Bridge standout Spenser Rositano, who saw plenty of playing time in the secondary in the fall at Boston College as a true freshman.

Football: Briar Woods Junior Matt Rolin Gets First D1 Offer

(Dec. 1, 2011)- Briar Woods High School football coach Charlie Pierce said that Falcon junior linebacker Matt Rolin has picked up his first NCAA Division I offer as Boston College offered the 6-foot-4, 200-pound linebacker on Monday. Rolin and the Falcons are two games away from repeating as VHSL Division 4 state champs as they play Saturday against Grafton in the Williamsburg area in the semifinals.

(Aug. 16, 2011) - Loudoun Valley High School senior wide receiver Harrison Jackson has hauled in his biggest catch yet -- a full ride scholarship offer to ACC school Boston College which he has verbally accepted.

The 6-foot-2 Jackson caught 30 balls last year for 329 yards and six touchdowns. Jackson helped the Vikings make the playoffs last year and advance to the AAA regional semifinals. He is expected to be a big-play maker for Valley this season as the Vikings move down to the AA Dulles District.

Football: Briar Woods Big Playmaker Junior Alex Carter Drawing College Interest with Six Verbal Offers

Carter makes leaping grab in state title win

(Feb. 24, 2011) - Briar Woods High School big playmaker Alex Carter, a junior WR/DB that helped the Falcons to the school's first ever state football title in December, is drawing bigtime interest from NCAA Division I schools with six verbal offers already from Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Stanford, Duke and Kansas State.

Falcon coach Charlie Pierce says that Tennessee and Notre Dame are close to making their offers soon.

"Alex has a lot to offer to these programs on offense, defense or special teams," said Pierce.

Carter, son of former Washington Redskins defensive back Tom Carter, led Briar Woods in all-purpose yards and in total receptions with 48 for an average of 15.8 yards per catch.

Averaging 4.6 yards per rush, Carter was electrifying on returns, averaging 38.5 yards per kickoff return and scoring two touchdowns including a school-reocrd 98-yarder. He finished second on the team with 11 total touchdowns.

On defense, he had 50 total tackles with two interceptions and 10 pass break ups.

"The one thing that really stands out with his play is his ability to come up with big plays when the team needed it," said Pierce.

Those big plays in the playoffs included a 65-yard field-reversing catch-and-run TD against Liberty in the regional playoffs that was the game's only score and a leaping grab that he turned into a 77-yard touchdown in the state title game against Harrisonburg. That catch from freshman quarterback Trace McSorley came with Briar Woods trailing and turned the game around as the Falcons went on to win 41-21. On the defensive side of the ball he had an interception return of 38 yards for a score in the state semifinals.

In the classroom, Carter tackles AP and honor classes while carrying a 4.10 GPA leading Pierce to label him truly an "outstanding student athlete."

Football: Stone Bridge Celebrates the Signing of Four Players

(Feb. 2, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School celebrated on National Signing Day with four football players finalizing their college plans -- Spenser Rositano (Boston College), Rob Burns (Virginia), Calvin Hollenhorst (Coastal Carolina) and John Cheretis (Washington and Lee) -- before a packed cafeteria.

Football: Stone Bridge to Host Signing Ceremony for Four Bulldogs Wednesday

Ashburn (Feb. 1, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School will a signing ceremony Wednesday for four football players in the school's cafeteria at 4 p.m.

Spenser Rositano (Boston College), Rob Burns (Virginia), Calvin Hollenhorst (Coastal Carolina) and John Cheretis (Washington and Lee) will all take part in the ceremony. The quartet has helped the Bulldogs finish runner-up in Division 5 in the state the past two years while collecting two Liberty District and Northern Region titles.

Football: Stone Bridge's Spenser Rositano to Play at Boston College

(Nov. 15, 2010) - Stone Bridge High School has snagged yet another NCAA Division I commitment as senior standout Spenser Rositano has verbally accepted an offer to play next year at Boston College.

"It' always been my No. 1 throughout my recruiting process!," said Rositano. "Also it's a great institution, with great acedemics, and great athletics, so I'm very excited to play at such a great place."

Rositano helped the Bulldogs to the VHSL Division 5 title game last year as a junior and was named All-State on defense and this year he has led the Bulldogs to a 11-0 record. Rositano plays defense, is a wide receiver and also is a kicker and kick returner. He thinks the Eagles will look to play him at safety in college.

On offense he is averaging 26.4 points per catch on 16 receptions and on defense he has four interceptions, two of them returned for touchdowns, as well as 49 tackles, 37 of them first hits.

He is averaging 23.8 yards per punt return including two touchdowns. Rositano also tied the school record with a 48-yard field goal earlier this season.
