(Dec. 10, 2012) - Briar Woods High School senior standout Matt Rolin, committed to the University of Carolina since May, has changed his commitment to one of the Gamecocks SEC Rivals, the University of Florida over the weekend.
Rolin, a 4-star linebacker, had nearly 30 offers before initially choosing USC, a school he has strong family ties to. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Rolin is recovering from a knee injury -- the surgery South Carolina recruiting sites report was performed by the Gamecocks team doctor -- that knocked him out of the VHSL playoffs in the regional quarterfinals.

(Oct. 5, 2012) - Matt Rolin, the defensive catalyst that has sparked Briar Woods High School to back-to-back VHSL Division 4 state championships, a 33-3 record since his sophomore season and a current 20-game winning streak, was recognized this morning at the school's Homecoming rally for his selection to the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game.
Rolin, a 6-foot-4 linebacker and tight end, has committed to play next year at the University of South Carolina. First, he is spearheading the Falcons (6-0 overall, 4-0 in Dulles District) march towards a third straight state title.
Ashburn (June 20, 2012) - Briar Woods High School rising senior linebacker/tight end Matt Rolin racked up more two dozen major college scholarship offers before verbally committing in May to play at the University of South Carolina starting in 2013.
Rolin's big announcement came via Twitter where he tweeted: "Can't spell South caROLINa without Rolin! Committed to The University of South caROLINa!!!!" Rolin's family has huge ties to the Columbia, S.C. school as his parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all graduated from the university.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Rolin helped the Falcons to back-to-back VHSL Division 4 state titles in 2010 and 2011. As a junior he had 94 tackles with nine sacks and two interceptions while being named first team all-state.
Before choosing the Gamecocks, the 4-star linebacker also had offers from: Baylor, Boston College, Colorado, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, UConn, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Washington.
(Jan. 17, 2012) - Back-to-back VHSL Division 4 state champion Briar Woods High School continues to have a big football off-season with junior linebacker Matt Rolin picking up an offer Tuesday from the University of Virginia and senior defensive back/wide receiver Alex Carter named as a Parade All-American.
It was just the latest honor for the Stanford-bound Carter who played earlier this month in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl all-start game in Texas and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Virginia.
For Rolin, the UVa offer came on the heels of an offer from Virginia Tech and he has three other offers already from Boston College, Washington and Tennessee.
(Jan. 13, 2012) - Virginia Tech, a day after offering Briar Woods High School junior linebacker Matt Rolin, has now joined the growing pool of schools soliciting the services of Stone Bridge defensive lineman Jon Allen.
And the Hokies pipeline to Loudoun keeps growing as Washington Post uber-recruiting news reporting Paul Tenorio reports that Broad Run quarterback Connor Jessop has committed to VT as a preferred walk-on.
For those of you keeping track at home, Allen now has offers from: Boston College, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Penn St., Rutgers, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Wake Forest, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech.
(Jan. 12, 2012) - How could the Hokies pass on Matt Rolin!?! Virginia Tech has officially offered the Briar Woods High School junior linebacker, joining Boston College, Tennessee and Washington to seek the services of the athletic playmaker.
Rolin's brother Scott, was a redshirt walkon at Virginia Tech this past fall. In his first two seasons on varsity, Rolin has helped the Falcons to back-to-back Division 4 state titles.
(Dec. 24, 2011) - Briar Woods High School football coach Charlie Pierce reports that All District/All Region linebacker Matt Rolin, who helped the Falcons to a second straight VHSL Division 4 state title earlier this month, received his second verbal NCAA Division I offer, this time from SEC University of Tennessee. Earlier this month, Rolin received his first offer from Boston College.
(Dec. 1, 2011)- Briar Woods High School football coach Charlie Pierce said that Falcon junior linebacker Matt Rolin has picked up his first NCAA Division I offer as Boston College offered the 6-foot-4, 200-pound linebacker on Monday. Rolin and the Falcons are two games away from repeating as VHSL Division 4 state champs as they play Saturday against Grafton in the Williamsburg area in the semifinals.
