Football: Rolin Sacks South Carolina, Swaps Commitment to SEC Rival Florida

(Dec. 10, 2012) - Briar Woods High School senior standout Matt Rolin, committed to the University of Carolina since May, has changed his commitment to one of the Gamecocks SEC Rivals, the University of Florida over the weekend.

Rolin, a 4-star linebacker, had nearly 30 offers before initially choosing USC, a school he has strong family ties to. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Rolin is recovering from a knee injury -- the surgery South Carolina recruiting sites report was performed by the Gamecocks team doctor -- that knocked him out of the VHSL playoffs in the regional quarterfinals.

Softball: Woodgrove Senior Mackenzie Moler Signs to Play at South Carolina

Purcellville (Nov. 19, 2012) - Woodgrove High School speedy senior outfielder Mackenzie Moler, who helped the Wolverines win the VHSL AA state title in the spring, has signed her letter of intent to play softball next year at NCAA Division I University of South Carolina.

The left-handed slap hitter hit .408 in the regular season as a junior and then .435 in the postseason as the Wolverines hoisted the Dulles District, Region II and AA titles. In the last two seasons, Moler has swiped 43 bases. She plans on a pre-med track at USC.

"I am really excited about competing at the D1 level in the SEC, one of the most competitive conferences in the nation," Moler told the Loudoun Times-Mirror after her verbal commitment. Read more here.

USC softball coach Beverly Smith also received letters of intent from Nickie Blue (P/1B, Longmont, Colo.), Kaylea Snaer (C/1B Rowland Heights, Calif.), Macey Webb (1B/C Stanfield, N.C.), Taylor Williams (3B, Flatonia, Tex.) and Victoria Williams (1B/3B/C, Williamston, S.C.).

"This is a very talented group of softball players," said Smith.

Baseball: Woodgrove Sophomore Kaleb Bowman Becomes Another Class of 2015 Pitcher to Commit Early

Purcellville (Oct. 11, 2012) - Kaleb Bowman of Woodgrove High School became the second sophomore pitcher in Loudoun to make an early college decision as the 6-foot right-hander has verbally committed to play at the University of South Carolina starting in 2015-16. Bowman has been clocked near 90 mph by scouting services.
