Purcellville (Feb. 1, 2010) - Loudoun Valley High School Proudly announces the induction of William and Mary Football Coach Jimmye Laycock into the Viking Athletic Hall of Fame. The induction will take place on Feb 9 during halftime of the Loudoun Valley vs. Stonewall Jackson Girls Basketball game.
Coach Laycock was not able to attend the induction ceremony this past fall due to his commitment to the William and Mary Football Program.
Laycock is from Hamilton and he earned 12 varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball at Loudoun Valley where his football jersey number was retired. Laycock was a three-time all-district quarterback and once completed 22 passes in one game. He graduated in 1966.
Laycock has served as head football coach at the College of William and Mary since 1980. He graduated from William and Mary in 1970 and played quarterback under legendary coaches Marv Levy and Lou Holtz.
Prior to taking over the Tribe head coaching position, Laycock coached at Newport News High School, Clemson University, The Citadel, and the University of Memphis.
Laycock has been the most successful head coach in the history of William and Mary football, leading the team to 20 winning seasons and 10 post-season appearances. Laycock earned career win No. 200 in December with a victory over Southern Illinois in the FCS national quarterfinals. He is just the 13th coach in FCS history to reach that mark.
On June 21, 2008, William and Mary officially opened its state-of-the-art football facility which is named the Jimmye Laycock Football Center.
