Sims, who verbally committed last week, plans on playing outfield for the Lady Falcons which have a good track record of placing their players in NCAA Division I programs. Sims hopes to transfer to the University of Central Florida in Orlando after her two seasons at Daytona State.
Daytona State plays in the Florida College System Activities Association's Mid-Florida Conference and had an overall record of 19-34-1 in 2011. Former Virginia Tech standout and professional pitcher Angela Tincher was an assistant coach last year for the Lady Falcons.
Sims was an all-Dulles District first team outfielder last year as a junior and was named second-team all-district as a sophomore. As a freshman she was a starter as Broad Run won a third consecutive AA state title and was named second-team all-district. Last season Sims belted a two-run home run to help the Spartans clinch a regional bid on the night when her late mother Kitty Sims was honored after having passed away after a long fight with cancer. In November her father, Tom Sims, also passed away after a long battle with cancer.
