Girls Basketball: Woodgrove Remains on Loudoun County's Heels

Purcellville (Jan. 27, 2012) - Lost in the shuffle of the big boys basketball game between Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove Wednesday night was that the Woodgrove girls team quietly opened the doubleheader by taking care of business against winless Valley, winning 68-26.

Woodgrove is now 11-1 in the Dulles District and 15-2 overall, just a game back in the loss column of Loudoun County (11-0, 12-5) with the two teams scheduled to end the regular season against each other in Purcellville on Feb. 10.

The Wolverines have three contests before they can think about that big game, starting with Heritage on Saturday and then Tuscarora (Feb. 3) and Park View (Feb. 7). Loudoun County has four contest prior to the Wolverines game: Tuscarora (Sat), Park View (Jan. 31), Briar Woods (Feb. 3), and Dominion (Feb. 7).

On Wednesday it took about as long as a bus ride from Valley to Woodgrove as it took the Wolverines to put the contest out of reach as they led their cross-town rivals, 21-6, after the first quarter.

Woodgrove was led by the hotshooting of Sarah Hardison who finished with a game high 15 points. Sharpshooter Brooke Basinger connected on all five of her 2-point buckets to finish with 10 points.

Stephanie Purnell chipped in with 9 points and Halle Lynch added 8. Once again, Brittany Basinger set the tempo on both ends of the court dishing seven assists and snaring 10 steals.
