Basketball: The Skinny on Friday Night's Schedule

(Jan. 13, 2012) - Teams will be looking to finish strong before heading into their midterm break which starts after Saturday's schedule.

Boys Basketball
Woodgrove at Briar Woods, 7:30
The Skinny: Can the Falcons tame WG's Brad "Field Golazo" Gilson who dropped a Loudoun record 54 points on Park View this season? Can the Wolverines stop BW's point guard dynamo Myles Tate, who can beat you off the dribble or from NBA 3-point range? Woodgrove at 5-3 in Dulles District needs this win to stay on the heals of Potomac Falls (6-2) and Loudoun Valley (8-1). Briar Woods (6-0) needs this win to stay perfect in the district.

Freedom at Broad Run, 7:30
The Skinny: BR (2-4 in district) and Freedom (1-4) have taken their lumps thus far in the tough Cedar Run. Tonight they get to take it out on each other. Nigel Johnson is a scoring machine for the Spartans.

Dominion at Potomac Falls, 7:30
The Skinny: Park View's Ryan McCarter went for 44 against the Titans so PF's Greg Graves, with 44 and 31 (yes 31!) rebounds against Park View, could really do some damage tonight in the Panther Pit.

Heritage at Park View, 7:30
The Skinny: Big game in the middle of the standings as one of these two teams will climb to 5-5 in Dulles and the other drops to 4-6. McCarter is the key. Pride have proven they can play with any team in Dulles.

Loudoun County at Loudoun Valley, 7:30
The Skinny: There was a time when this was THE rivalry in the county but things have cooled a bit with the new schools opening in Leesburg and Purcellville. Valley's zone defense will look to clamp down on Raider Michael Anderson. LC must stop the Yox ... John Yoxthimer.

TJ at Stone Bridge, 7:30
The Skinny: A battle of teams 1-4 in the Liberty ... look for Bulldogs to bust out a 20-point plus victory ... yes, you read that here first!

Girls Basketball
Briar Woods at Woodgrove, 7:30
The Skinny: Woodgrove has proved a solid No. 2 to LC thus far in the Dulles at 8-1. Briar Woods is at .500 (4-4). Wolverines like to push the pace.

Freedom at Broad Run, 6
The Skinny: Freedom isn't used to its 5-11 mark but has had a tough schedule so expect them to run away in this opener of the DH.

Potomac Falls at Dominion, 7:30
The Skinny: Dominion at 2-7 in Dulles can move into a tie with neighbor Potomac Falls (3-7). Both teams have been playing games closer than their marks indicate.

Park View at Heritage, 7:30
The Skinny: Is Park View's recent string of wins for real? We find out more tonight against a Pride team that has struggled a bit in the new year.

Loudoun Valley at Loudoun County, 7:30
The Skinny: County will have no problem emptying its bench against the winless Vikes.

Stone Bridge at TJ, 7:30
The Skinny: The top of the Liberty is a bruising battle so expect a Stone Bridge team, licking its wounds at 3-2 in district, to take out its frustrations on a TJ with just two wins on the season and none in district.
