Wrestling: Freedom, Broad Run Both Go 7-1 at Cheers Sports Viking Duals

Purcellville (Jan. 24, 2012) - The Broad Run and Freedom wrestling teams both went 7-1 over the weekend at the Cheers Sports Viking Duals at Loudoun Valley High School.

The two Cedar Run District foes will collide Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the opening round of the Honda Dulles Ashburn Duals, a Wrestle for the Cure event benefiting the Chris Cooley Foundation, at Broad Run High School.


At the Viking Duals, the Freedom's only loss came to AAA state powerhouse Westfield High School 39-21.

The Eagles started off the weekend by defeating Berkley Springs West Virginia 57-17, before dropping the match to Westfield. After that match the Eagles began to role again as they would convincingly defeat their next five opponents before squaring off with Washington High School out of West Virginia. The Eagles would jump out to a 33-5 lead in the match, before Washington would come roaring back in the low weights. After scoring victories at 106, 113, 120, 126, and 132 the match was tied at 33-33 before Freedom's Cody Hamm took the mat. Hamm quickly took him opponent to the mat, turned him and pinned him to seal the victory for the Eagles in exciting fashion.

Having outstanding weekends for the Eagles were Anthony Chau (7-1), DaQuante Timbers (8-0) and Chris Freda (8-0). Freda was named the Eagles Most Outstanding wrestler for the tournament because of his three come from behind victories against outstanding opponents on the weekend.

Broad Run's only loss came to Washington WV, 54-24 with the Spartans beating Loudoun Valley (47-27), Cosby (42-32), Osbourn (61-13), Heritage (63-18), Berkeley Springs (50-28), Potomac Falls (434-32) and Heritage again (48-24).

Potomac Falls finished 3-4 while Heritage and host Valley were both 3-5. Complete scores:
