Gymnastics: Freedom as a Team, Robinson in All-Around Take Third at VHSL State Meet

Freedom: Third in the state!
(Feb. 22, 2012) - Freedom High School sophomore Arianna Robinson took third place in the All Around at the 2012 VHSL open state meet at Salem High School on Saturday. The day before, Freedom as a team had finished third behind state champion Cox and runner-up Washington-Lee.

The Eagles scored 144.475 with Cox at 148.075 and W-L with 146.200.

Robinson scored 38.375 to finish behind winner Jamie Stone of Western Branch (38.875) and Mary Lynn Clark of Washington-Lee (38.650). Loudoun County's Victoria Miner finished 15th with 36.675, just ahead of teammate Jessica Drews with 36.000. Woodgrove's Amanda Huebner scored 35.775 and Loudoun County's Hannah Powell, 35.000.


Robinson was second on the vault with 9.850. Clark won the event with a 9.900. Miner tied for sixth with a 9.475. Robinson was eight on the bars with a 9.525, another event won by Clark with a 9.900.

On the beam, Robinson was tied fourth with a 9.700. Jenine Hutt of host Salem won with a 9.825.
The floor was the only event that Robinson did not have a podium finish, scoring 9.300. Stone was first with a 9.750.

Five Raiders competed in the VHSL State Individual Championships on Saturday, the most athletes Loudoun County has ever had compete at the state meet.

Victoria Miner earned a medal by placed 6th on vault (9.475). She also had season high scores on bars (28th place 8.875), beam (24th place 9.225) and in the all around (15th place 36.675) floor (28th place 9.1).

Leigh Philbrick had a season high score on vault (38th place 8.675)

Jessica Drews had a strong performance on beam (tied for 13th place with 9.525),having a season high on bars (30th 8.75), vault (33rd 8.825), floor (34th place 8.9), All Around (16th place 36.00).

Hannah Powell had season high scores on vault (34th place 8.8), bars (30th place 8.750), beam (39th place 8.375), Floor (29th place 9.075), All Around (19th place 35.00).

Annie Asai competed in her 1st state meet with an outstanding performance on floor (38th place 8.775).
