Girls Basketball: Woodgrove Fights Off Upset-Minded Tuscarora to Set Up Third Meeting with LC in 8 Days

Woodgrove continues to fly high!

(Feb. 16, 2012) - The Woodgrove High School girls basketball team fought off an upset-minded Tuscarora team for a 50-35 Dulles District semifinal win Wednesday that set up another Woodgrove vs. Loudoun County meeting in Friday's 6 p.m. title game at Heritage High School. It will be the fourth meeting on the season and third meeting in eight days for the two schools.

After struggling through a sluggish first half Wednesday, the Wolverines applied their patented
defense to pull ahead for good. Woodgrove trailed by three at the half, but outscored the Huskies 33-14 in the second half for the win.


Stephanie Purnell and Brooke Basinger led the Wolverines with 13 points apiece. Purnell also added 11 rebounds and rejected five shots. Sarah Hardison finished with 12 points, 5 boards, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

Assistant Wolverine coach Bill Reynolds, supplying the highlights: "The Wolverines have proven to be an unselfish, tight knit group focused on true team play."
