(Feb. 22, 2012) - Hopes were high with seven Loudoun boys basketball teams in the Region II playoffs, including six of the eight teams in the Division 4 tournament, but after Tuesday's quarterfinals only Loudoun Valley and Potomac Falls were left standing.
Loudoun Valley (23-3), the top seed in D4, took take of Dulles District foe Park View, 77-53. Potomac Falls (18-8), the No. 3 seed in D4 after falling to Valley in the Dulles tournament title game, fought off a challenge from Loudoun County, 56-47, in another all-local contest.
The Vikings remain at home, hosting No. 5 Millbrook, a somewhat surprise 60-49 winner over No. 4 Briar Woods, on Thursday in the semifinals. Briar Woods (18-7) started the season out 15-2 and was at the top of the Dulles standings until the final week of the regular season but the Falcons are done after finishing 3-5 down the stretch.
Potomac Falls travels Thursday to No. 2 seed Sherando, a 75-67 winner over Heritage Tuesday. Both games are 7 p.m. starts.
Loudoun Valley Report
The Vikes report that John Yoxthimer, who had a hot Dulles District title game against the Panthers, led the team with 26 and that Josh Grimard added 20. Paul Rowley (12) and Jovon Miller (10) game the Vikes four in double digits. No report from Park View.
Potomac Falls Report
There is no report from Potomac Falls but see from their box submitted to the Washington Post that Greg Graves had a big night, scoring 22 points. He was the only Panther in double digits with Wanya Allen and Brandon Orbe each scoring 7.
Loudoun County was led by Michael Anderson with 15. Tim Herring scored 9 and Ben Massey accounted for 8.
