Swim: Potomac Falls Boys, Girls Runner-up at Region II Meet; Panthers' Lin and Pride's Rosenburg Double Winners

Potomac Falls boys, girls were Region II Runner-ups!
(Feb. 8, 2012) - Loudoun swimmers flexed their muscles at the Region II meet over the weekend in Warrenton with the Potomac Falls High School boys and girls runner-up and Panther William Lin and Heritage's Kaleigh Rosenburg both double winners.

Potomac Falls boys scored 68 points to champion Brentsville's 85 and the girls with 57 to runaway winner Western Albemarle at 148.

Loudoun girls were very strong in the meet with Tuscarora third followed by Briar Woods, Heritage and Dominion to give area teams five of the top six spots. On the boys side, Briar Woods was fifth.

Lin was a double winner with a first in the 200 free with a 1:47.02 and a first in the 500 free at 4:49.71. Loudoun County's Courtner Clark was third in the 200 behind Lin and Dominion's Aidan O'Hara was runner-up in the 500.

Rosenburg was also a double winner, taking  the 200 IM with a 2:08.28 with Potomac Falls' Kiri Harvey third, and winning the 100 breast with a 1:05.37. Amanda Presgraves of Tuscarora was third in that race.

The Potomac Falls boys quartet of Gavin Saunders, Sean Hurrell, Riley Jamison and Lin won the 400 free relay with a 3:24.24. The Panthers were also runner-up in the 200 free relay with Jamison, Saunders, Grant Deker and Lin teaming. Heritage (Tim Burris, Constatin Fabian, Jake Schroth, Daniel McAllister) was third in that race.

Briar Woods' Brennan Maxwell swam 54.70 to win the 100 fly with Loudoun County's Jake Koenig runner-up. Koenig was also second in the 100 breast.

Dominion's O'Hara swam 56.00 to win the 100 back with Maxwell runner-up.

Potomac Falls girls captured the 200 medley relay with Karen Hood, Ariana Staffen, Carson Newton and Harvey swimming a 1:55.35 to edge Tuscarora (Pim Silpacharn, Amanda Presgraves, Imelda Ogango, Bailey Jenkins) at 1:55.97.

Briar Woods boys (Eric Guessford, Kyle Albers, Maxwell, Michael Humphrise) were runner-up in the 200 medley relay. In the 200 IM Samuel Presgraves of Tuscarora was runner-up with Sean Hurrell of Potomac Falls third.

In the girls 200 free, Loudoun swimmers touched two through six with Rachel Williams of Dominion, Sophie Newton of Loudoun County, Mittan of Briar Woods, Marks of Dominion and Amanda Presgraves of Tuscarora owning all but the top spot.

It was another girl power showing for Loudoun in the 100 fly as Newton led a 2 through 6 charge again with Williams, Harvey, Newton and Park View's Catherine Vu behind her. In the girls 100 free, Silpacharn of Tuscarora was third. In the 100 back it was  2-3 finish for Katie Lee of Heritage and Cynthia Vu of Park View.

Tuscarora (Jenkins, Presgraves, Ogango, Silpacharn) were runner-up in 200 free relay with Briar Woods (Madi Horner, Veronica Smith, Mittan, Erica Comm) third.

The final race of the evening showed Loudoun girls strength with a 2-4 finish in the 400 free relay. Potomac Falls with Lindsey Oteyza, Newton, Staffen and Harvey were runner-up followed by Briar Woods (Horner, Caitlyn Brown, Mittan, Comm) and Heritage (Lee, Hannah Miklich, Allison Grecco, Rosenburg).

  1. Great article capturing the fine Young Men and Women Swimmers from Loudoun County who made a remarkable effort at this AA Reagional Swim Meet, making the meet entertaining, and honoring Loudoun County Schools.

    Good Luck to all of the swimmers advancing to the AA State Championship Meet at Christiansburg Aquatics Center this Friday and Saturday!
