Middleburg (Feb. 22, 2012) - These games are known in sports circles as “laughers", though no one was really laughing, or even smiling, after Foxcroft's 51-9 humbling over Emmanuel Christian School Tuesday in the first round of the Delaney Athletic Conference Division II basketball playoffs.

Though the lopsided result was expected ... and not much fun ... nonetheless, the win was Foxcroft’s seventh of the season – the most the squad has amassed since the 2005-2006 season. It also advanced Foxcroft to a Thursday afternoon showdown with Wakefield Country Day School in Flint Hill. The DAC girls basketball championships are scheduled for Saturday at Highland School in Warrenton.

ECS had only five able-bodied players and Foxcroft had its way with the Manassas team from the outset of the game – the first playoff game hosted by Foxcroft. Led by the defense of junior guard Debbie Cadenas, who finished with six steals, and the offense of senior center Lizzie Wilford, who finished with a team season-high of 18 points, Foxcroft reached the 50-point mark for the first time this season. Wilford, one of two players honored after the game at “Senior Day,” also had 12 rebounds to complete the first double-double of the season for Foxcroft.

Foxcroft head basketball coach Jessi Coil and Assistant Fred McMane
honored senior co-captains Alex Carr and Lizzie Wilford Tuesday after
Foxcroft's first-round victory in the Delaney Athletic Conference Div. II
tournament. The team faces Wakefield Country Day Thursday.

Cadenas added nine points and freshman forward Carrie Cunningham had eight as seven of the 10 players used by Coach Jessi Coil scored.
