Yankees Sweep AAA and Majors Championships for LLLL
(June 15, 2011) - The 49th regular season of Lower Loudoun Little League (LLLL) wrapped up on Saturday, June 11 with five championship games. It was a season of change and a season where the league recognized its past and our present.
The season kicked off in April with opening day festivities at Jeff Cobb Field at Bill Washington Park, including the induction of the Lower Loudoun Little League 2011 Hall of Fame Class. Two new members were inducted this year:
Jack Jennings was one of the founders of LLLL in the 1960’s and was the league’s first Treasurer. Over the years Jack was also a coach, player agent and after he was done coaching he was an umpire for many years. Throughout his years working with LittleLeague, Jack had one goal in mind, and that was to teach his young players how to play baseball, good sportsmanship, and enjoy the game. Regardless of the score or the ability of the player, every one of his players played in every game. Jack Jennings Field at Bill Washington Park is named in his honor and has been home to countless games and wonderful memories for the thousands of player that have played on the field bearing his name.
Tim Lieb has been a dedicated member of LLLL for over 10 years. He has coached his 3 kids – sons Zach & Tyler, and daughter Brenna – at all levels from T-ball thru Big League. He was a long-time Board Member in various positions including Player Agentand Vice-President. Much like Jack Jennings, Tim loved to teach all aspects of the game to his players. He made sure that every kid that wanted to play had the opportunity – no players were turned away, no matter how long registration has been closed! Ashis sons moved up to play on the big field, Tim spent many hours at Foltz Field – mowing, raking, whatever needed to be done to make it a premier field for the kids to play on. Tim was a huge supporter of bringing back Big League baseball to LLLL.
Also in April, it was announced that LLLL would be moving – Districts! LLLL became part of Virginia Little League District 16 in April. The move brings all of the Little League programs in Loudoun County into the same district. LLLL is excited for this new chapter in our history and happy to be part of District 16!
