(June 15, 2011) - Broad Run High School senior Taylor Clarke was named to the 1st team All-State baseball squad this weekend as a Designated Hitter. Clarke had an outstanding senior season for the Spartans (23-4) whose season ended in the AA state semifinals.
Clarke earned a long list of honors for his performance this year as a hitter and pitcher. He was named Dulles District Player of the Year. He was a 1st team All-District unanimous selection as DH and a 2nd team All-District selection as a Pitcher. He was also a unanimous 1st team selection as DH. He was named 2nd team All-Met by the Washington Post as a DH as well.
Clarke finished the year hitting over .400 on the season with 5 Home Runs and over 30 RBI. On the mound, he had a 10-1 pitching record along with 1 Save in the Region Championship game. He had complete game victories on the mound in the District tournament (4-1 over Briar Woods), the Region tournament (7-0 over Sherando), and the AA State Tournament (5-2 over Jamestown).
Next year Clarke will attend Towson University on a baseball scholarship. Towson is a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
