(June 9, 2011) - Freedom High School sophomore Wesley Wong came from behind to advanced to the VHSL AA singles state finals this morning but fell to 4-time state champion Salem's Patrick O'Keefe in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
O’Keefe becomes the first player in VHSL history to win four Group AA Boys Tennis State Titles, with the Thursday afternoon win at Radford University as part of the 2011 Spring Jubilee.
O’Keefe advanced to the finals with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Gary George of Rockbridge County in the semifinals. Wong rallied from a set down (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) to defeat Tabb’s Chiraag Shetty to set up his finals matchup with O’Keefe.

HARTER WINS GROUP AA GIRLS TENNIS SINGLES STATE TITLE
Kristin Harter of Hidden Valley defeated James Wood’s Headley Wilson, 6-3, 6-4, to capture the Group AA Girls Tennis State Title Thursday afternoon at Radford University as part of the 2011 Spring Jubilee.
Harter advanced to the finals with a straight-set decision (6-4, 6-0) over Jessica Miller of Stuarts Draft.
Wilson held off York’s Wiktoria Plawska with a 6-1, 6-2 decision to set up her finals matchup with O’Keefe.
GEORGE MASON’S KAN TAGAMI CAPTURES GROUP A BOYS TENNIS STATE TITLE
Kan Tagami of George Mason defeated Glenvar’s Tim Howard in straight-sets (6-3, 6-1) to win the Group A Boys Tennis State Title, Thursday afternoon at Radford University as part of the 2011 Spring Jubilee.
Tagami advanced to the finals with a 6-0, 6-1 semifinal decision over Drew Barsamian of Appomattox Regional Governor’s School this morning.
Howard recorded a three-set win (7-5, 2-6, 6-3) over Lee’s Marc Huff to set up his championship match with Tagami.
MICHAEL CAPTURES GROUP A GIRLS TENNIS SINGLES STATE TITLE
East Rockingham’s Allison Michael cruised by Taylor Evans of Gate City, 6-1, 6-0, to capture the Group A Girls Tennis State Title Thursday afternoon at Radford University as part of the 2011 Spring Jubilee.
Michael advanced to the finals with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Shelby Ford of Appomattox Regional Governor’s School.
Evans held off Radford’s Cypress Beach, 6-2, 6-1 in Thursday morning’s other semifinal match.
