News: Park View High School Honors Athletes to Play at College Level

Sterling (June 6, 2011) - Park High School held a ceremony last week to honor nine Patriots that will play at the college or postgraduate level next year.

HAYDEN EARLEY
Hayden will be attending Garrett College where he will be playing for the Lakers. The college is a member of the Maryland JUCO Conference, Region XX, and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Hayden was a three year starter for Park View at short stop. His senior year he received the Coaches Award.

ROBIN HEIRONIMUS
Robin Heironimus will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall and will be trying out for the Hokie Softball team to play at the invitation of Coach Scot Thomas. Robin is a four year starter at Park View. As a pitcher, she appeared in 61 games and completed her career with 371 strikeouts and a 1.99 earned run average. As a hitter, she started every game Park View played these past four years. She hit .364 over her career with 3 home runs and drove in 50 runs. This led to her being named to the All District Team three times, the All Loudoun County team and an Honorable Mention All Met selection by the Washington Post. We all wish Robin the best of luck as she moves on to Blacksburg.

JOSE HERRERA MENDOZA
Jose will be attending ASA in the fall where he received a full scholarship. Jose, a 4 year Varsity starter was named 1st Team All District 3 years. His junior year he was named Dulles District Player of the Year, Region Player of the Year and 1st team All State and nominated to NSCAA All American Team. He ended his career here at Park View with 82 goals and 37 assist. He is one of the fasted left footed players in the state of Virginia. The Boy’s soccer program has been impacted by his heart and dedication and leadership.

AVRON HOLLAND
During Avron’s one year at Park View he has shown that he is one of the top running backs in the area. Avron, an all around player, showed off his skills at multiple positions. In 2010, Avron started at running back, defensive back, and returned kickoffs for the Patriots. At Running back Avron ran for 723 yards on 164 carries averaging 4.41 yards a carry. Avron also had 12 receptions for 186 yards during his senior year. Avron had 6TDs on the year with one being a kickoff return. This upcoming fall, Avron has earned himself a preferred walk-on spot at West Virginia University.

JOSEPH JACKSON
Joe, a two year varsity starter at Park View, proved that he is one of the best athletes in the district. Jackson, a two-way starter, showed off his talents by starting at Wide Receiver and Corner back in the 2010 season. Jackson scored four touchdowns this past season, three at WR and one at corner back returning it for a touchdown to help secure a victory for the Patriots over district Rival Loudoun County. At wide receiver, Jackson had 19 receptions for 284 yards averaging 14.9 yards per catch. At his corner back position, Jackson had 30 total tackles, one interception, and seven pass break ups. Jackson will continue his football career next year at Jireh Prep school in Mathews, NC.

ERIC PALMA
During his career at Park View High School, Eric established himself as one of the top linebackers in Park View’s history. Eric was voted as the Dulles District Defensive Player of the Year, 1st team All-District linebacker, 2nd team All- Region linebacker, All-State honorable mention, and an All-D.C. Metropolitan area honorable mention for his outstanding play as a middle linebacker. Eric, a two-time team captain and three year varsity starter, captured the record as the all-team leading tackler at Park View with a total of 296 tackles. During Eric’s senior year he accounted for 144 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 3 INTs (1TD), 6 Pass break-ups and multiple big hits. Eric is characterized as a hard worker, a team leader, a scholar-athlete (3.0 overall GPA), and a person with great integrity. Eric will show off his talents next season as a linebacker for Stevenson University in Stevenson Maryland.

EMILY NYKORCHUK
Emily Nykorchuk will be attending the University of Mary Washington and playing softball for Coach Dee Conway. UMW is a solid program, competing in the Capital Athletic Conference. While at Park View, “Chuk” caught nearly every game for three years. Even a broken nose kept her out for only one game. Her unselfish attributes and hard work will serve her well as she takes her game to the college level. Chuk was named to the All Dulles District Second Team for her outstanding defensive work and timely hitting. For her dedication to Park View Softball, Chuk was named a Co-Captain of this year’s team. There is no doubt that Emily will do Park View proud at UMW—both on the field and in the classroom. Best wishes, Chuk !!

CHRISTINA SHEPPARD
Christina will be attending Neosho County Community College in Kansas, this fall after accepting a scholarship as a member of the women’s Basketball program. While playing at Park View, Christina was team captain this year. She earned varsity letters all 4 years. The girls’ basketball program has been impacted by her heart and dedication.


CARLEIGH SNEAD
Carleigh will be attending American University this fall and will be walking on to their Division 1 soccer team. American is head coached by David Bucciero and play in the Patriot League Conference. During her time at Park View, Carleigh has played Varsity soccer for 3 years and was named 2nd team all district during her junior season. Also, throughout her junior and senior seasons, she was the leading scorer on the team.
