(June 2, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School has hired J.E.B. Stuart's girls varsity coach Thomas Gaffney to take the reigns of the Bulldogs program which went 23-4 last season under Chris Jones, who stepped down after the season. Gaffney, previously an assistant coach at Fairfax High School for three years, went 0-23 in his one year at Stuart.

Gaffney was also a head varsity girls basketball coach in California before moving to Ashburn, according to Stone Bridge athletic director Dave Hembach.

All interested parents and players are invited to “Meet the Coach” next Thursday, June 9th at 4 p.m. in the Stone Bridge library. Coach Gaffney will discuss his expectations and off-season plans in preparation for the upcoming 2011-12 season.

Coach Gaffney released the following statement about joining the Stone Bridge Staff:
“I am humbled and very excited to have been given the opportunity to lead the Stone Bridge Girls basketball program. As a member of the community, I know the school and community are passionate about their sports and academics, so the decision to apply for the job was an easy one. I am proud to be representing an Athletics Program with such an amazing reputation for integrity and success."
