(Oct. 29, 2011) - With only one more week left in the regular season, area football teams put the moves on district titles Friday with Briar Woods High School claiming a share of the Dulles District title and Stone Bridge putting a hold on a share of their seventh straight Liberty District title.
In the Cedar Run District, Osbourn and Battlefield have completed their seasons (with byes next week) and the Eagles and Bobcats each have a share of the district title with Broad Run expected to make it tri-champions next week. Here is the title picture in each district:
Dulles District: Briar Woods has earned a share of its second straight Dulles crown with an 7-0 district mark. Both Loudoun County and Tuscarora kept their district title hopes alive with wins as they improved to 6-1 in the Dulles. The Raiders can claim a co-championship with a win next week at Briar Woods. If County does knock off Briar Woods and Tuscarora is able to beat Heritage, then the three schools would be tri-champions. Heritage's loss to County on Friday dropped the Pride to 5-2 in district and eliminated them from the banner picture.
Cedar Run District: Battlefield already had a share of the district title after knocking off Broad Run last week to finish 3-1 in the small 5-team CR. Osbourn's win over Freedom left them 3-1 as well and at least co-champions. If Broad Run is able to beat 1-win Freedom next week in South Riding then there would be tri-champions.
Liberty District: Seasons come and the season go but some things remain constant such as Stone Bridge celebrating a Liberty District title. The Bulldogs have clinched at least a share with a 6-0 mark. Madison, which fell to Stone Bridge Friday, is 5-1 and can finish co-champions if Fairfax can upset the Bulldogs next week. Fairfax's loss to Langley on Friday left both teams 4-2 and out of the title race.
