(Oct. 13, 2011) - Following in the shoes an her older sister isn’t an easy fit, but Foxcroft School sophomore McKenna Andrews is beginning to leave her own footprints.
McKenna, a sophomore from Pacific, Mo., has been named Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 3 because of her steady play and team leadership in the junior varsity volleyball team’s strong showing against Wakefield Country Day School on Thursday, Sept. 29.
McKenna’s older sister, Claire, was a star athlete at Foxcroft and received the Teresa E. Shook Award at the 2011 graduation ceremonies for skill in performing a sport and also making an outstanding contribution to the spirit of good sportsmanship. Claire is now a freshman at the University of Missouri,
And it’s McKenna’s turn to shine. “McKenna is the glue that holds JV volleyball together,” coach Maria Eagen said. “She is a leader in every way, encouraging her teammates, helping them with skill development and leading them on the court.
“She spends the bus time helping the new players understand the protocol of the matches and works hard to build a cohesive team out of the group. She is also a powerful force at the net and completely dominated the net in our game against Wakefield Country Day School.”
