(Oct. 4, 2011) - Stone Bridge High School junior Matt Ashley shot a two-day total of 155 to finish tied for 9th at the Northern Region golf tournament held at Twin Lakes, and qualify for the AAA state tournament.
With team champion Langley and runner-up Centreville placing five athletes in the eight spots, Ashley was able to qualify as one of the six lowest-scoring individuals not on either of the top two teams.
Langley won with a two-day total of 605, some 12 strokes better than Chantilly at 617. Madison was third at 643, just a stroke better than Herndon. South County (662), Yorktown (665), Lee (702) and Hayfield (720) rounded out the team scoring.
Chris Brugge of Langley was the low medalist with a 148 after shooting a pair of 74s. Tyler Spears of Lee was runner-up at 150 and Keon Ho Song of Centreville shot a 151 for third. Steven Aanstoos of Chantilly was fourth and Edric Wung of Langley was fifth, both at 151.
There was a three-way tie for sixth: Julie Luo of TJ, Juhee Bae of Chantilly and Will Byrne of Langley.
In a tie with Ashley for ninth was Joel Choi of Madison and Patrick Miller of Herndon.
