Football: The Skinny for Tonight's Games

Dulles District
Heritage (4-0, 5-1) at Briar Woods (5-0, 5-1)
The Skinny: Battle for first place in Dulles District. Briar Woods has out-scored opponents by one million points since a season-opening loss to Broad Run ... OK, something close to that. Basically, it is easier to get into the CIA headquarters than it is the Falcons end zone. Heritage's Austin Nelson is one of the top rated quarterbacks in the D.C. area. The Pride have averaged 36 points a game but have also allowed almost 27 points per game. Give the advantage to the defending state champs BWoods on Homecoming in Brambleton.


Loudoun Valley (1-3, 2-4) at Potomac Falls (1-3, 1-5)
The Skinny: This is a tricky game to call as the Panthers have struggled since the start of last season but recently their efforts have been much-improved on the field, battling Heritage to the end and giving Tuscarora a good contest. Valley also battled Heritage to the end. On a muddy field, look for turnovers to be the key -- the team that makes the most will lose this one.


Park View (2-3, 2-5) at Tuscarora (3-1, 5-1) 
The Skinny: The Patriots come to Leesburg with plenty of offense recently but Park View must stop the Huskies on defense if they want to pull of what would be considered an upset on the road. Look for Tuscarora to eat up the clock with its ground game and try to wear down the Pats who have a lot of players going both ways.


Dominion (0-5, 0-6) at Loudoun County (3-1, 5-1)
The Skinny: This game has been moved to noon on Saturday due to wet field conditions at County. The Titans are averaging just 7.2 points per game and will find the going tough against a hard-nosed Raider defense. Look for County's special teams to make some special plays Saturday.


Cedar Run District
Osbourn (1-0, 5-2) at Broad Run (0-0, 5-1)
The Skinny: Wow, what a way for the Spartans to make their Cedar Run debut against an Osbourn team that has been a state contender in AAA the last couple of years and just last week the Eagles knocked off Battlefield, 28-21. The only thing standing between the Spartans and a perfect season is a forgettable second half at Stone Bridge when they lost a 24-point lead. Broad Run has Battlefield coming to town next week so the Spartans want to take care of business tonight. If the Eagles give Connor Jessop time to throw, it will be a long bus ride back to Manassas but if they can pressure the SR quarterback, then Broad Run will have its hands full.


Freedom (0-1, 1-5) at Battlefield (1-1, 5-2)
The Skinny: The Bobcats will be licking their wounds after last week's loss to Osbourn and figure to take it out on Freedom. Another tough night for the South Riding crew.


Liberty District
Marshall (0-3, 1-5) at Stone Bridge (3-0, 5-1)
The Skinny: This is how you schedule a Homecoming game ... pick an opponent averaging 12 points a game and then put one of the top defenses in the Northern Region on the field against them. Look for junior sack-meister Jonathan Allen to ring up as many QB takedowns tonight as he wishes. The Bulldog starters should be practicing their dance moves on the sidelines by the third quarter in this runaway.
