Wrestling: Loudoun County Schedules Events to Help Raise Funds for Red Cross Hurricane Relief and Wounded Warrior Project

Leesburg (Nov. 6, 2012) - The Loudoun County High School wrestling team has two events scheduled to benefit two great causes -- a Blue and Gold Night intra-squad match on Nov. 24 to benefit Red Cross (Hurricane Sandy donations) and the Dec. 15 Duals for the Warriors which supports the Wounded Warrior Project.

On November 24, 2012, Loudoun County High School will be hosting it's annual Blue and Gold Night starting at 6 p.m. Blue and Gold night is a intra-squad wrestling match which will determine who will start varsity for the opening match at that weight class and for the wrestlers to gain valuable experiences.

On top of this event, we will be accepting donations for the Red Cross: Hurricane Sandy Donations. http://www.redcross.org/ The event is free, but the Raiders are asking for donations at the front door (not mandatory). All donations will go directly to the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy efforts.

Said Caruso: "I have family and friends in New Jersey and they are resilient. Rhino Wrestling Club is operating on generators just to hold their Monday Practices."

On December 15, 2012, Loudoun County High School will host the “Duals for the Warriors” fundraiser supporting wounded service members through Wounded Warrior Project.

The Raiders invite all to come out and watch, retirees, active duty personnel, and civilians.

All proceeds from shirt sales and donations will be donated to the nonprofit organization Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), and will support a full range of programs and services for this generation of injured veterans and their families.

Caruso says that a friend who he served with in the U.S. Army and who was wounded in Afghanistan will be at the duals.

Over 47,000 servicemen and women have been injured in the recent military conflicts. In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another 320,000 are believed to have experienced a traumatic brain injury while on deployment.

WWP’s 18 programs and services are uniquely structured to nurture the mind and body, and encourage economic empowerment and engagement.

Duals for the Warriors is a 10 team wrestling dual tournament with the eventual champion at the end. Each team will wrestle 5 matches throughout the day with no byes.

At the end, the top 3 teams will receive an award, each team will be awarded 1 MVP, there will also be a Pin King awarded (most pins) and Takedown champ (most take-downs).

The event on December 15, 2012 starts at 9:00am-5:00pm. Teams are: Loudoun County, Heritage, Briar Woods, Tuscarora, Warren County, Clarke County, George Mason, Paul IV, St. James, and Falls Church.
