(Nov. 14, 2012) - The second annual Layups in Loudoun to support Loudoun County Special Olympics is set for Nov. 17 at Broad Run High School in Ashburn. The event features alumni teams from across the county coached by four area varsity basketball coaches: Mark Alexander (Loudoun County), Mike Benson (Briar Woods), John Costello (Broad Run) and Jeff Hawes (Potomac Falls).
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with the event starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door with all proceeds going to Special Olympics.
Alumni from local high schools will compete in a pair of first-round games. Loudoun County/Loudoun Valley, coached by Alexander, will play Potomac Falls/Park View, coached by Hawes, in the first game. The second game will feature Stone Bridge/Broad Run, coached by Costello, against alumni from newer Loudoun schools, coached by Benson.
The winners of the first round games will meet in the championship game at 8 p.m. There will also be halftime games feature Special Olympic athletes against coaches.
