News: Loudoun County Sheriff's Undercover Detective Charged with DWI after Lansdowne Incident

(Nov. 14, 2012) - A Loudoun County Sheriff'€™s Detective was charged on November 10th with driving while intoxicated in the Lansdowne area.

Loudoun County Sheriff'€™s Deputies responded to the area of the Lansdowne Town Center around 12:30 a.m for a report of possibly intoxicated male attempting to leave in a vehicle. As deputies arrived on the scene they learned the driver, later identified as an undercover member of the agency'€™s Criminal Investigations Division, struck two parked vehicles. He was driving his personal vehicle.


The name of the officer has not been released as this is both a criminal and personnel matter, and because of safety concerns regarding his involvement in ongoing criminal investigations.

"We hold our deputies to the highest standards and respect due process. We must allow the criminal justice system and an internal investigation to take its course regarding this matter,"€ said Sheriff Mike Chapman. "€œThe deputies who responded to this incident took the appropriate action and we are thankful for their dedication to this agency and to Loudoun County,"€ Chapman added.

The detective, a 10-year-member of the agency, was taken into custody at the scene. He has since been placed on paid administrative leave.
