Win or Go Home! Regional Bids on the Line Tonight in Cedar Run, Dulles District Tournaments

(May 18, 2012) - In the age of expanded the playoffs the earlier games in district tournaments carry the most weight in terms of making Regionals and tonight 32 Dulles District spring sports teams will take the field in the district quarterfinals with the winner's clinching a AA Region II bid and the loser's turning in their gear for the season.

Over in the AAA Cedar Run District 16 spring sports teams will play for a bid to the Northwest Region tournament in semifinal action in baseball, softball and soccer. Unlike the Dulles, the Cedar Run teams have a final shot as the loser's tonight will meet in a consolation final with the district sending three teams to Regional.

Regular-season champions are the exception as they are already assured of a Regional trip even if they do get upset tonight. Those already clinched include: Potomac Falls and Freedom baseball; Woodgrove and Broad Run softball; Briar Woods and Freedom boys soccer; Woodgrove and Freedom girls soccer.

The Liberty District is already into semifinal (baseball, softball) and finals (soccer) action tonight at James Madison High School with the Stone Bridge girls soccer playing McLean at 6 p.m. for the title game. The Bulldogs baseball and softball teams are in action and have already advanced to the Northern Region tournament.
