Volleyball Round-up: Potomac Falls Sweeps William Monroe Classic; Tuscarora Wins First Ever Volleyball Match

(Aug. 30, 2010) - Potomac Falls High School bounced back from a season-opening loss to Heritage on Thursday to sweep the William Monroe Classic on Saturday with a 4-0 mark. Tuscarora High School won its first ever volleyball match with a sweep over Handley.

In other volleyball action, Dominion beat Washington-Lee in four games Saturday; Briar Woods dropped Fauquier in four games; and Woodgrove fell to Millbrook in four games.

The Falcons improved to 2-0 on the year.as Shelby Harris led the team in service points with 11, while Keandra McCardell led the team in kills with 13. Chelsea Kaser led BW in digs with 11 and Caitlin Villa led the team in assists.

"These ladies are really playing very well together and are looking forward to doing well in the Dulles District this season," reports Falcons coach Diane Breinig.

Woodgrove's varsity won its first ever set but fell to Millbrook in four in the Wolverines second match of the season.

Woodgrove's junior varsity split two games before falling in a nail-biter in the third set.

Coach Faisal Hallaj reports that "The entire Woodgrove volleyball coaching Staff (was) excited at the obvious improvements the teams displayed from the first contest to the second and feel the teams are well on their way to having a great, growing season.

The Wolverines host their first ever volleyball match on Wednesday, a Dulles District opener against Dominion High School, and then are home again on Thursday against Broad Run.
