Volleyball: Woodgrove Selects Its First Ever Squads, Season Opens in a Week

(Purcellville) - Woodgrove High School’s athletic program kicked off in full swing this past week with tryouts for Fall sports. Inside the recently completed gymnasium, the Wolverine volleyball team held tryouts, finalizing selection and squad assignments on Friday afternoon.

Under the direction of coach Faisal Hallaj, along with his assistant coach Michele Spahr, JV coach Bob Fuller, and Freshman coach Katie Zebley, all those players interested in participating in the program were evaluated. A complete team roster, and player list, is available at the end of this article.

The teams will play a scrimmage match against Loudoun's other new school, Tuscarora, on August 19 in Leesburg. The first game of the season is on August 23 at Battlefield High School. The first home game will be on September 1st against Dominion High School. Games are scheduled at 6pm (Freshman/Junior Varsity) and 7:15 (Varsity). Coach Hallaj reports that he "is looking forward to a successful first year and feels each team has a solid foundation and will be ready to meet the challenges of the season."
