Baseball: Greater Loudoun Opens Babe Ruth 14-Year-Old World Series with 4-2 Win

Purcellville - (Aug. 22, 2010) - The Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth baseball team opened the 14-Year-Old World Series at Fireman's Field with a 4-2 win over Bryant, Ark. on Saturday before a appreciative home crowd.

Reid Frazier worked five strong innings and Zach Hopeck picked up the save for the Lions.

Both teams picked up unearned runs in the fifth inning before Greater Loudoun pushed three across in the sixth inning. Josh Sweet almost blasted a home run to center but settled for an RBI double to put Loudoun ahead and Mikey Push then ripped a two-out, two-run triple that turned out to be the difference maker after Bryant got one run back in their half of the sixth inning. Second baseman Brian Minks sparked the Minnesota offense with a two-run double in the third inning. Pitcher Jeff Fasching tossed a 2-hit complete game, limiting the Arlington offense to one run over seven innings

Stephen Miller became the 16th player to hit a home run in a 14-Year-Old World Series, as his two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh capped a 5-4 comeback victory for defending 13-Year-Old World Series champion Tallahassee. Williamport's Kyle Datres went seven innings, while striking out five. He helped his cause at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two runs and two RBI's.
