(Aug. 9, 2010) - The Special Forces track club thrived despite some of most intense competition in the country and sweltering temperatures ranging from 100 to 112 degrees on the track in Norfolk this past week. Qualifying 27 competitors for the Junior Olympics, Special Forces completed their 12th season breaking more than 22 team records.
Fifteen of the club members were on hand to receive the Impact Award, recognition for smashing records on the track. Special Forces had at least 30 members that were ranked in the top 100 nationally or received all conference, All Met, all region or all state honors from elementary to the high school level this season.
Off the track, fielding a team with only 50 members, almost a third of the team received the student-athlete Impact Award, for achieving straight A's or perfect scores on the Standards of Learning test (SOL). A few athletes will prepare for the Potomac Valley games to be held in September in Falls Church while most of the athletes will rest or prepare for their fall sports.
