Baseball: 14-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series FAQs and VivaLoudoun to Give Away Four Passes to Tournament

(Aug. 12, 2010) - In a little over a week, the 14-Year-Old Babe Ruth World Series will be held at Fireman's Field In Purcellville. VivaLoudoun.com will be on hand for coverage and we are going to give away four passes (valued at $100!) to the entire tournament so check back on details on how to win. What are the tournament dates?
Games will be held August 21 -28, 2010.

Where are the games being played?
All games will be played at Fireman’s Field, located at 250 Nursery Avenue, Purcellville, VA 20132.

When do teams arrive?
Teams arrive on August 19 and activities for coaches, league officials and players begin on August 20.

Where will players and coaches stay while in Loudoun?
Tournament officials and coaches will stay at the Best Western, in Leesburg, VA. Players will be living with volunteer host families in Loudoun County. Players will meet host families at the host hotel on August 19.

How were host families selected?
Host families were solicited from Loudoun County residents. Local Babe Ruth League officials screened families expressing an interest.

When is the opening banquet and who is the featured speaker?
The opening banquet takes place at Loudoun Valley High School on August 20 6:30 p.m. The guest speaker is former Yankee second baseman, Bobby Richardson. Richardson won five gold gloves at second base. His 12-year career stats include 34 home runs, 390 RBIs, 73 stolen bases, 196 doubles, 37 triples, and a batting average of .266. In 1962, probably his best year, Richardson batted .302 with eight (8) home runs and 59 RBIs. He led the American League with 209 hits, made the All-Star team, and came in second in the MVP voting behind teammate Mickey Mantle.

Who can attend the banquet?
The public can attend the banquet; however seating is very limited. The cost is $25 per person. Information about banquet tickets is available by calling 540-338-0012.

When is the opening ceremony?
The opening ceremony takes place on August 21 at 9:30 a.m. Games begin at 11:00 a.m.

How many teams are playing?
Ten teams play in this tournament. A pool play format will be used. There will be two divisions of five teams each. Each team will play four games in their own division. The top two teams in each division will play a single game elimination tournament to determine the championship. The 2010 series includes the Virginia State Championship team from Winchester, VA and local host team, the Greater Loudoun Lions. What is the cost of a tournament pass?
Tournament passes cost $25 for an individual and $45 for a family (up to four members). A tournament pass is valid for up to eight (8) daily admissions. Daily tickets cost $7 and are valid for all games scheduled on that day. Children under the age of six are admitted free. Daily admission and tournament passes will be sold at Fireman’s Field beginning August 21.

Where can advance tournament passes be purchased?
Beginning August 5, advance tournament passes can be purchased at Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, 215 Depot Court, SE, Leesburg, VA 20175 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Will there be reserved seating?
There will not be reserved seating for the public.

Where do visitors park?
General parking at Fireman’s Field is available until 3:00 p.m. on August 21-22 and all day on August 23-26. At all other times, visitors are asked to park at Loudoun Valley High School located at 340 N. Maple Avenue in Purcellville. Parking is free and free shuttle buses, including accessible buses, will run continuously beginning one hour before each game until one hour after the conclusion of the last game.

How did Babe Ruth, Inc. select Loudoun County for this tournament?
Officials from Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth, Inc. and Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services made a formal bid to the Babe Ruth League Inc.

How is the tournament coordination being funded?
The Greater Loudoun Babe Ruth World Series, Inc. was organized as a non-profit, 501© (3) organization to raise the funds to sponsor this tournament. Funds to conduct the tournament are raised through public and private sponsorships, advertising, admissions, concessions, and souvenirs. In-kind donations and monetary contributions are also received from businesses, as well as the Town of Purcellville. Loudoun County Government also approved funding through a grant from the Restricted Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT).
