Boys Lacrosse: Broad Run's Ryan Madigan Commits to NCAA Division I Robert Morris

Ashburn (Aug. 18, 2010) - Broad Run High School rising senior Ryan Madigan has verbally committed to attend Robert Morris University and play NCAA Division I lacrosse for coach Bear Davis.

"We could not be more proud of Ryan for earning a scholarship from RMU," said Madigan's father, Mark Madigan. "It will also be a lot of fun in the Madigan home because Ryan and Eric will get to play in the same conference for two years."

Ryan's older brother, Eric, enters his sophomore year at Sacred Heart this fall.


Robert Morris University is located on a 230-acre residential campus just 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. The school's lacrosse program was started six years ago by Davis and has grown into a Division I program with a 10-5 record in 2010 including wins against Penn State, Ohio State, and Air Force.

Boasting one of the top offenses in the nation averaging nearly 16 goals per game, Robert Morris plays in the Northeast Conference against Sacred Heart, Mount St Mary’s, Bryant, Wagner, and Quinnipiac.

Madigan helped Broad Run to another Dulles District title in the spring, ending the year as the third leading scorer on the Washington Post leaders charts. He finished with 65 goals and 39 assists. He also had a team leading 71 groundballs and was named first team all-district and all-region.

He had a very busy summer, playing in about 40 lacrosse games in different recruiting tournaments from June 23rd to early August. Madigan played in two recruiting camps - the Top 205 at University of Maryland and Blue Chip Elite at Bryant University in Providence, RI

Madigan also played for the Virginia Lacrosse Club coached by Justin Fitzgerald (Robinson HS) and Jeff Lewandowski (Loudoun Valley HS). The Virginia Lacrosse Club competed at the Brine Shootout in Baltimore and Patriot Games outside of Philadelphia.

He won't have much time to celebrate his college decision as Madigan is busy preparing for his senior football season, having helped the Spartans to back-to-back state titles as a defensive back.
