(May 20, 2010) - The Loudoun Valley boys and girls tennis teams didn't even need their doubles pairings on Wednesday in the AAA Northwester Region quarterfinals as the Vikings took care of business in singles with the boys beating Woodbridge, 5-1, and the girls blanking Forest Park, 5-0.
The boys, making the regional semifinals for the first time in more than 16 years, will host Riverbend at 4 p.m. today. The girls, who have been a frequent state tournament qualifier in recent years, are on the road at Albemarle.
Reported Viking boys tennis coach Alex Bennett: "The match was dominated in all aspects of singles. Two matches went to three sets but both Brandon Deleonardis and Sam Riedel dominated their third sets taking 4-1 leads in each. Riedel had the match of the season for valley as his final singles at No. 4 clinched Valley's first regional semifinal in 16+ years."
