Track and Field: Potomac Falls After Dulles District Sweep Leads Area Athletes to Region II Meet; Northern and Northwest Region Meets Also Slated

(May 26, 2010) - It is region track and field time with the Potomac Falls High School boys and girls teams, fresh off a sweep at the Dulles District meet, leading athletes from seven AA schools to Thursday's Region II meet at Handley. Stone Bridge will compete at this week's Northern Region meet at Lake Braddock and Loudoun Valley is off to UVa for the Northwest Region meet.

On the girls side, the Panthers won their first ever Dulles District title with Nicole Fauteux's stunning comeback on the anchor leg of the 4x400 win capping the meet. Fauteux, who also won the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles with a district meet record, received the baton exchange some 75 yards behind but closed the gap with a 58-split and passed the last runner in front of her in the final 15 yards before an appreciative crowd at Freedom High School.

On the boys side, the Panthers won the title for the first time in more than five years thanks to a talented pack of long distance runners that took four of six places in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters.

VivaLoudoun editor Dan Sousa caught up with the Panthers last week and interview Nicole Fauteux and her freshman sister Eileen and he spoke the "pack", the PFalls boys long distance runners as well as the Panther head track and field coach Courtney Cornwall.
