News: Woodgrove Hires Volleyball, Cheer Coaches; Adds Assistant AD and Athletic Trainer

Purcellville (May 26, 2010) - Woodgrove High School, which opens this fall, has named Faisal Hallaj as girls volleyball coach and Ariel Gouveia-Winslow as competitive cheer coach as well as naming current Heritage High School assistant Athletic Director Randy Trenary and Potomac Falls athletic trainer Paul Peterson to the same positions for the Wolverines.

Trenary comes to Woodgrove after serving for the past six years as the assistant AD at Heritage High School and four years as the AD at Clarke County High School. Trenary has been a head football coach for five years, basketball coach for seven years and a track coach for three years.

Peterson comes to Woodgrove after serving as the athletic trainer at Potomac Falls High School for the past 10, at Geogetown University for five years, Hampden-Sydney College for two years and as a graduate trainer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for three years.

Woodgrove AD Rusty Lowery in a release said: "Both of these individuals not only have an extensive background in working in the field of athletics, they also have a passion for building excellent programs, promoting athletics and creating relationships to be proud of in Western Loudoun County."

Hallaj comes to Woodgrove after serving as a youth volleyball coach with Loudoun Youth Volleyball and Western Loudoun Volleyball Club for the past three years. Hallaj, a Western Loudoun resident, has 28 years of athletic playing, refereeing and coaching experience.

His athletic background in sports includes over twenty years of training and competing in Tae Kwon Do, being top 10 in the United States in 1990 and 1991, 10 years of soccer refereeing experience at the youth, adult and professional levels, as well as, a variety of coaching positions in youth lacrosse and soccer.

Hallaj has been working with various organizations and surrounding schools in an effort to establish a well-rounded and experienced team of coaches. The goal is to build Woodgrove's volleyball program into one that meets the high level of expectations in Loudoun County. Hallaj will hold an informational meeting for students interested in volleyball at Woodgrove High School in the near future.

Gouveia-Winslow will come to Woodgrove after graduating in July from Virginia Tech with a degree in Psychology. She is a resident of Western Loudoun, plans on starting a program to be proud of in Loudoun County by building a competitive program including pride and spirit within the school and community.

She competed for four years at Stone Bridge High School including winning two AAA state championships. An interest meeting will be scheduled in the near future.
