Ashburn (May 18, 2010) - The Stone Bridge High School boys and girls soccer teams swept a AAA Liberty District quarterfinal last night at home in the rain to advance to Wednesday's semifinals and clinch bids to the Northern Region tournament.
The No. 1 seed Bulldog girls started things off with an 8-0 win over Marshall and the No. 2 seed boys held back South Lakes, 2-0. The girls will face Fairfax at Fairfax on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the semifinals with McLean vs. Madison to follow at 7 p.m.
The Bulldog boys will host McLean at 7 p.m. on Wednesday with Langley vs. TJ at 5 p.m. in Ashburn.
Liberty District Girls Soccer Quarterfinal: Stone Bridge 8, Marshall 0
Freshman Ashley Herndon led the Bulldogs by scoring four goals including three in the first 13 minutes as Stone Bridge improved to 12-0-2 on the season. Sophomore Erin Leonard added two more goals before the end of the first half.
Senior Jennifer Skogerboe scored the first goal in the second half. Herndon then scored her fourth goal of the night. Freshman Emily Lung scored the final goal of the night in the last 30 seconds of the game.
Earning assists for the night were Emily Fredrikson with two, Sara Bowers, Murielle Tiernan, Skogerboe, Emily Person, Maggie Schierling, and Imani Ervins. Junior goalkeeper Julia Harmison have two saves in the game earning her seventh shutout of the season.
Liberty District Boys Soccer Quarterfinal: Stone Bridge 2, South Lakes 0
Sophomore Peter Whelpley and senior Clay Brothers scored for the Bulldogs with Tommy Dunne picking up an assist. Nick Lowrey secured his fifth outright shutout on the season giving Stone Bridge their eighth shutout overall. The Bulldogs are now 12-2-0 on the year.
