Softball: Dulles, Cedar Run, Liberty District Updated Standings and The Skinny on Regular Season Races

(April 26, 2012) - The high School softball regular season is down to the late innings and Woodgrove (Dulles District), Broad Run (Cedar Run District) and Madison and Stone Bridge (Liberty District co-leaders) are in position to take a championship banner and/or top seed into their respective regional.

Dulles District
The Leader: Woodgrove (10-1 in district)
The Contenders: Loudoun County (9-2), Briar Woods (8-2)
Still Alive: Potomac Falls (6-5)
Key Match-ups: Briar Woods vs. Potomac Falls (Apr. 27), Loudoun County vs. Briar Woods (May 8); Woodgrove vs. Loudoun County (May 15).
At Stake: Regular season title, top seed in Dulles District tournament, automatic bid and better seeding in Region II tournament as Dulles top team. 4 teams will advance to regionals.
The Skinny: Woodgrove took a one-game lead in district with last week's win at Briar Woods, avenging their lone loss on the season. Last year the district's top seed came down to the final night of play and that could happen again with the Wolverines facing current second place LC on the final night.

Cedar Run District
The Leader: Broad Run (5-0 in district)
The Contenders: Battlefield (3-2), Osbourn (3-2)
Still Alive: Patriot (2-3), Stonewall Jackson (2-3)
Key Match-ups: Battlefield vs. Osbourn (May 1), Broad Run vs. Osbourn (May 3), Broad Run vs. Battlefield (May 11).
At Stake: Regular-season title, top seed and bye in Cedar Run District tournament, automatic bid and better seeding in Northwest Region tournament at Cedar Run top team. 3 teams will advance to regionals.
The Skinny: With five games remaining, the Spartans 2-game lead looks huge as they can split with Battlefield and Osbourn and still take the title. Stonewall may be the wild card in the race.

Liberty District
The Leader: Stone Bridge (8-1), Madison (8-1)
The Contender: McLean (6-2)
Still Alive: Langley (5-4)
Key Match-ups: Stone Bridge vs. Madison (April 27); Stone Bridge vs. Langley (May 1); Langley vs. Madison (May 4); McLean vs. Madison (May 8); McLean vs. Langley (May 11)
At Stake: Top seed in the Liberty District tournament and automatic bid and better seeding into Northern Region tournament. 4 teams advance to regionals.
The Skinny: Stone Bridge and Madison will slug it out in Ashburn Friday for sole possession of first place. McLean, which beat SB Tuesday, is just a game back in the loss column with match-ups against Madison and Langley still left.
