Boys Soccer: Dulles, Cedar Run, Liberty Updated Standings, The Skinny on Regular Season Races

(April 26, 2012)- With about two weeks left in the boys soccer regular season all the district races are wide open with Tuscarora and Briar Woods (Dulles District), Freedom and Osbourn (Cedar Run District), and South Lakes, Stone Bridge, Langley and TJ (Liberty District) all at the top of the table.

Dulles District
The Leader: Tuscarora (8-1-2)
The Contender: Briar Woods (8-1-1)
Still Alive: Park View (6-5-0), Heritage (5-4-2), Woodgrove (5-5-1), Dominion (5-6-0), Loudoun County (4-5-2)
Key Match-ups: Briar Woods vs. Park View (May 1); Tuscarora vs. Loudoun County (May 1); Tuscarora vs. Dominion (May 4); Tuscarora vs. Woodgrove (May 8); Briar Woods vs. Loudoun County (May 8); Briar Woods vs. Heritage (May 11); Briar Woods vs. Dominion (May 15).
At Stake: Regular season title, top seed in Dulles District tournament, automatic bid and better seeding in Region II tournament as Dulles top team. 4 teams will advance to regionals.
The Skinny: Briar Woods is listed as the "contender" as they are one point behind Tuscarora but after Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Huskies, the Falcons are in control as they play one more game on the remaining schedule than Tuscarora. The rest of the teams are mathematically alive but would need an undefeated run and both leaders to severely falter to get to the top.

Cedar Run District
The Leaders: Freedom (4-1-0 in district), Osbourn (4-2-0)
The Contender: Broad Run (3-2-1)
Still Alive: Battlefield (2-2-1), Stonewall Jackson (2-3-0)
Key Match-ups: Osbourn vs. Freedom (Apr. 27); Osbourn vs. Battlefield (May 1); Freedom vs. Battlefield (May 4); Broad Run vs. Freedom (May 8); Battlefield vs. Broad Run (May 11.
At Stake: Regular-season title, top seed and bye in Cedar Run District tournament, automatic bid and better seeding in Northwest Region tournament at Cedar Run top team. 3 teams will advance to regionals.
The Skinny: Broad Run was in the leader spot until a tie with Battlefield and then a 4-2 loss Tuesday to Freedom. The Eagles suddenly find themselves in control as they have one more game to play than co-leader Osbourn. We won't have to wait long to find out which the two teams will be alone in first as they meet Friday night in South Riding.

Liberty District
The Leaders: Stone Bridge (2-0-2), South Lakes (2-0-2)
The Contenders: Langley (2-0-1), TJ (2-1-1)
Still Alive: Madison (2-2-0), McLean (1-2-0)
Key Match-ups: With five teams within a one of first place, just about every remaining Liberty District match is key!
At Stake: Top seed in the Liberty District tournament and automatic bid and better seeding into Northern Region tournament. 4 teams advance to regionals.
The Skinny: Langley, with one more game left on the schedule, than SB and SL is sitting in a nice spot. McLean could be a difference maker as the Highlanders face Stone Bridge on May 1 and then Langley the next night. South Lakes finishes the season with Langley on May 9.
