(April 16, 2012) - APEX Gymnastics girls Level 9s had a winning weekend at the Region 7 Gymnastics Championships held in Virginia Beach. APEX was led by senior Maddy Scozzie who was crowned the Regional All Around champion.
Scozzie also was the gold medalist on floor and beam and second on vault. She is a senior at Broad Run High School and will compete for SUNY Cortland next season.
Junior Madison O’Braitis finished 3rd in the all around and Bridgette Schaal was 5th – they will all travel to Landover, MD to compete in the JO National Championships in May.
Region 7 consists of the best athletes from Virgnia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virgina. Over 400 athletes competed for a spot in the top 6 all around and a trip to Nationals. Gymnasts will be outfitted in National team competitive attire and attend opening ceremonies, an athlete banquet and compete against the best gymnasts in the United States.
In addition, APEX Senior Aaron Meland, level 10 will travel to Cincinnati to compete in the Mens JO National Championships based on his qualification at the Mens Region 7 Championships this past weekend.
On the girls side, top APEX finishers:
Maddy Scozzie - 2nd vault, 1st beam, 1st floor, 1st all around - National Qualifier
Madison O'Braitis - 7th vault, 3rd bars, 8th beam, 3rd all around - National Qualifier
Kylie Klokis - 10th bars
Alex Cocozza - 10th bars, 9th floor
Bridgette Schaal - 4th vault, 6th beam, 5th all around - National Qualifier
Sara Connors - 9th beam
Jessica Schaub - 9th floor
Cassidy Gagnon - 12th vault
Caitlin Villavicencio - 7th beam
