Gymnastics: Chase Clingman, Age 11, Wins Four Medals at 2013 Men's Junior Olympic Championship in Oregon

(May 17, 2013) - APEX gymnast Chase Clingman, age 11, spent his first week of May in Portland, Oregon competing at the 2013 U.S. Junior Olympic National Championships. He was accompanied by his coach, Vladimir Shamenko, a bronze medalist in the 1996 Summer Olympics, and Clingman came away with an impressive four medals including 3rd on the floor, 4th on parallel bars, 5th on high bar and tied for 6th on vault.

More than 700 of the USA's top Level 8, 9 and 10 men's gymnasts competed over the course of 5 days. Chase was one of only four 11 year olds from Region 7 (Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania) to qualify to this event.

Gymnastics: APEX's Jamie Morris Crowned Region 7 Bars Champion

(May 16, 2013) - APEX gymnast, Jamie Morris, was crowned the Region 7 Bars champion at Level 8 Regionals held in Landover, MD the weekend of May 4 and 5, 2013. Morris scored a 9.475 to capture the regional title.

APEX gymnast Ashley Spangler also had high results finishing 10th in the vault.

Gymnastics: APEX Crowns at State Champion

(April 20, 2013) - APEX Level 7 gymnast, Ashley Wilkins, was crowned the Level 7 state champion on balance beam at the state championships held in Hampton, VA on April 6 and 7. Gymnasts from all over the state competed with a total of over 600 competitors and 55 teams. The APEX level 7 team finished 9th in the state!

APEX Level 6s had a strong showing as well led by strong all around performances by Ellie Wooten and McKenna Magoffin. The level 6 team finished 13th in team competition out of the 30 teams competing for state titles. Congratulations to all of the gymnasts. Top 10 finishes are listed below:

Gymnastics: APEX Boys Successful at States

(March 20, 2013) - The Apex boys gymnastics team returned to Virginia beach over the weekend to  compete at this years State Meet and it was a successful trip as the entire team team qualified to Regionals.

Gymnastics: APEX Level 4 Team Qualifies for States

(Feb. 6, 2013) - The APEX Level 4 team competed in the Sectional qualifier at Chantilly Gymnastics in an effort to qualify to state competition. Gymnasts must score a 33.00 all around in order to qualify to the state competition to be held at Averett University in Danville, VA in May. All of the APEX gymnasts moved on to state competition!

The qualifying gymnasts are: Josie Binkley, Jordan Burnett, Marlena Costanzo, Bailey Crittenden, Teryn Cuozzo, Allison Holbrook, Makaila Knoerzer, Rachel Lawlor, Lillian Lin, Dilara Michlena, Emily Paulson, Nina Cacciola, Ella Peterson, Anna Reed, Carly Snyder, Madelyn Walsh and Carrie Wiggins.

Gymnastics: APEX Level 6 Flies High at Arlington Aerials Invitational

Gymnastics: Broad Run SR Madison O'Braitis will Compete Next Year for SUNY Brockport

(Nov. 19, 2012) - Broad Run High School senior Madison O'Braitis has accepted an offer to compete next year for SUNY Brockport's NCAA Division III D3women's gymnastics team.

The Golden Eagles won the 2012 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championship for the first time in program history last season. Coach John Feeney was named NCGA Coach of the Year last season.

O'Braitis has trained at APEX Gymnastics for 10 years and last year finished 4th at the National Championships.

Gymnastics: APEX's Chase Clingman Qualifies to National Team

(Nov. 12, 2012) - APEX gymnast Chase Clingman, age 11, qualified as a part of the Future Stars National Team while competing at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. He finished 14th in the competition. Chase is a level 8 gymnast coached by former Olympian Vladimir Shamenko at APEX in Leesburg, Virginia.

Gymnastics: APEX Kicks off Competitive Season this Weekend

(Nov. 10, 20120 -  APEX Gymnastics teams kicks off their competitive season this weekend with their 16th Annual In House Competition. Competition begins tonight with boys gymnastics and all day Sunday with the girls teams. Admission is free and all are invited. APEX gymnasts levels 4 - 10 will compete in this sanctioned event including the five senior gymnasts who start their final season.

Gymnastics: APEX Has Coaching Staff Full-Time and Part-Time Openings

Leesburg (July 3, 2012) - APEX Gymnastics has full-time and part-time openings on its coaching staff for Levels 4-10, recreational positions, preschool positions and developmental team positions - both boys and girls.

APEX's programs feature 1,200 students, 120 team for girls, level 4 through 10 and 76 All Stars in their 28,000 sq. foot facility. Team training in it’s own 14,000 sq. foot gym equipped with everything needed to successfully coach athletes. 

News: APEX Gymnastics Raises $28.5K for Western Loudoun Relay for Life

(June 21, 2012) - The APEX Gymnastics teams and families came together on sunny June 2nd to participate in the Western Loudoun Relay for Life at Heritage High School in Leesburg. APEX raised $28,500 for the event by doing various fundraisers such as giving away an iPad, holding open gyms and soliciting donations from family and friends. APEX was recognized for having the largest team contingent of over 150 team members and the largest single fundraiser in APEX owner, the late Marty Newsom.

News: Marty Newsom, Popular Co-Owner of APEX Gymnastics, Passes Away from Heart Attack at Age 42

Leesburg (June 6, 2012) - The Loudoun community suffered a great loss last night when Marty Newsom, popular co-owner of APEX Gymnastics, passed away from a heart attack at age 42.

Newsom, a former gymnast at the University of Wisconsin who went on to coach and judge the sport, co-founded APEX in 1997. Newsom was a standout at Herndon High School after moving to Northern Virginia from England his sophomore year. While in England he was top five in the country in his age group.

A memorial account is being set up for Apex scholarships so his family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to "APEX scholarship" in honor of "Marty Newsom". There will be a pot-luck so please feel free to bring a covered dish or dessert to share and also bring your own beverages. Paper products will be provided.

Gymnastics: APEX Wins Medals at Nationals

(May 9, 2012) - APEX Gymnastics Girls Level 9s had a winning weekend at the Level 9 National Gymnastics Championships held in Landover, MD May 4–6 as all of the APEX gymnasts medaled in events.

Bridgette Schaal finished 5th on vault, 12th on floor and15th in the all around at her first National competition. Also competing in her first National competition, Madison O’Braitis was 4th on bars, 8th on beam and 9th all around. Region 7 champion Maddy Scozzie finished 9th on vault, 7th on beam, 10th on floor and 6th in the all around. She is a senior at Broad Run High School and will compete for SUNY Cortland next season.

Gymnastics: APEX Level 5s Finish Season Strong

(May 1, 2012) - The APEX Girls Level 5 team finished the season with a 9th place team finish at the state championships in Radford April 28-29th.

The gymnasts were led by Kendra Rentz, Leslie Edwards, Ellie Deegan and Anatalya Zapanta who all had top 10 all around finishes.

Gymnastics: APEX Qualifies 4 Athletes to National Competition

(April 16, 2012) - APEX Gymnastics girls Level 9s had a winning weekend at the Region 7 Gymnastics Championships held in Virginia Beach. APEX was led by senior Maddy Scozzie who was crowned the Regional All Around champion.

Scozzie also was the gold medalist on floor and beam and second on vault. She is a senior at Broad Run High School and will compete for SUNY Cortland next season.

Junior Madison O’Braitis finished 3rd in the all around and Bridgette Schaal was 5th – they will all travel to Landover, MD to compete in the JO National Championships in May.

Region 7 consists of the best athletes from Virgnia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virgina. Over 400 athletes competed for a spot in the top 6 all around and a trip to Nationals. Gymnasts will be outfitted in National team competitive attire and attend opening ceremonies, an athlete banquet and compete against the best gymnasts in the United States.

In addition, APEX Senior Aaron Meland, level 10 will travel to Cincinnati to compete in the Mens JO National Championships based on his qualification at the Mens Region 7 Championships this past weekend.
