NFL: Washington Redskins Announce Preseason

Ashburn (April 16, 2012) - The National Football League announced its 2012 preseason schedule, and the Washington Redskins’ four-game slate begins with road contests against the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears in Weeks 1 and 2 and finishes with home games against the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Weeks 3 and 4. Specific dates and times for all games will be determined at a later date.


Barring any games being selected for national broadcast, all games will be shown locally on NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet. All games can also be heard on the Redskins Radio Network.

The meeting between the Redskins and Bills will be the 16th between the teams in preseason play all-time. The Redskins hold an 8-5 advantage in the preseason series with the Bills, having last faced them in Week 1 of the 2010 preseason. That game was Executive Vice President/Head Coach Mike Shanahan’s first preseason game with Washington, resulting in a 42-17 Redskins’ victory.

The Redskins face the Bears in Week 2 in the teams’ first preseason meeting since 1976. The Redskins are 4-7 against the Bears all-time in preseason play. The last Redskins’ preseason victory against the Bears came on Sept. 9, 1973, when the Redskins defeated the Bears, 17-3.

Washington’s preseason home opener at FedExField is scheduled for Week 3, when the Redskins will face the Colts in the preseason for a team-record-setting 21st time in preseason play. With a 16-3 preseason win in Indianapolis last season, the preseason record between the Redskins and Colts stands even at 10-10. The game will feature the two teams currently holding the first two picks in the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Redskins will close the preseason at home against Tampa Bay for the second consecutive year. In 2011, the Redskins defeated the Buccaneers at FedExField in Week 4 of the preseason on a 41-yard touchdown pass in the game’s final two minutes. Washington holds a 6-5 advantage in the preseason series against the Buccaneers after having won the teams’ last two preseason meetings in 2002 and 2011.
