Music: Loudoun County Public Schools Classical Guituartists Participate in Beatty Music Festival

(April 16, 2012) - The International Conservatory of Music of Washington, D.C., recently sponsored its 6th Annual Beatty Music Scholarship Competition for Classical Guitar on the campus of The George Washington University.

The Beatty Music Scholarship Competition was created to celebrate and encourage young classical guitarists and musicians in the Washington metropolitan area. Students compete for five prizes in three different categories, Youth (up to age 12), Junior (13 to 15 years old), and Senior (16 to 18 years old).

Freedom High School's Young Jun Lim was awarded the Grand Prize Scholarship, which includes an additional monetary prize as well as full scholarship to the National Guitar Workshop’s Classical Guitar Summit this summer in New Milford, Conn.

Lehning was awarded the fourth-place prize in the Senior Division.

Kelsey and Lim were selected to compete for the first- and second-place awards for the Senior Division on Monday, March 12, at the Lyceum in Old Town Alexandria. After both performed their selections, the judges retired to decide the awards. The judges awarded Lim the first prize winner and Kelsey second. In addition, the judges awarded Kelsey the prize for the Best Performance of a Fernando Sor Composition.
