News: Prudential Names Potomac Falls Freshman Abby Miller Top Youth Volunteer

(April 16, 2012) - Abby Miller, a freshman at Potomac Falls High School, has been named one of the two top youth volunteers in Virginia by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.

Miller has used her musical ability to help raise money for pediatric cancer research. Her efforts are fueled by her relationship with Taylor Love, who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.

Miller has performed in malls, hospitals, convention centers and in elementary schools from Virginia to New York to raise funds. The money she raises is being used to develop new treatments for neuroblastoma, a disease that doesn’t affect enough people to get attention from the major drug companies.


The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, now in their 17th year, are presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

As a state honoree, Miller will receive $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all-expense-paid trip in early May to Washington, D.C. There, she will join the top two honorees from each state and the District of Columbia for several days of national recognition events. Ten of the honorees will then be named as the top youth volunteers for 2012.
