News: Dominion Has Successful State DECA Conference

(April 27, 2012) - Dominion High School recently had a very successful DECA state conference in Norfolk. (DECA is an association of marketing students.)

Seventy-eight students from Dominion attended and 33 were recognized on stage for their achievements in their competitive event. Twenty-seven Dominion students will be advancing on to the International Career Development Conference April 28th through May 1st in Salt Lake City, Utah. This is the largest group ever from Dominion High School to attend the state conference and the largest number of competitors for Dominion advancing to the international conference.


Dominion saw two of its DECA members elected state officers. Jake Backers was elected executive vice president and Gillian Chugg will be Region 1 vice president.

State scholarships went to Amanda Wong and Jacob Savos.

Dominion was named the Largest Chapter in Region 1; was recognized for having the largest increase in membership; received the Platinum Chapter Award, Membership Award and DECA Week Award; and was re-certified as a Gold School-Based Enterprise.

Dominion’s Sandi Tucker was named Outstanding Advisor.

• Catherine Salamone and Carly Svensson - finalist, Hospitality Services Team Decision Making
