The conference, first of its kind for the area, was arranged by students from the Dominion Global Ambassadors Club, who won a Pepsi Refresh Project grant of $10,000 to host and organize.
The Global Ambassadors have chosen the theme "extending hands, expanding minds" for the summit. The goals of the summit are for the summit participants and Dominion student body to: 1) reach out to the young leaders around the world in friendship; 2) collectively extend a hand to those in need throughout the world; and 3) expand our global perspectives on important issues facing the world.
Summit participants will take part in lessons with Dominion students that explore global issues such as human rights, individual freedoms, conflict resolution, education, and environmental protection. Dominion students will also share their culture with the international students through homestays and summit activities organized by various clubs, including SCA, DECA, BFF, FEA, Model United Nations, the dance teams (step, latin dance, and hip hop) and the foreign language clubs.
Visits to key landmarks and institutions in Washington D.C., including the U.S. Capitol, the White House, and the U.S. Institute of Peace will provide summit participants and Dominion students an opportunity to further explore their roles as global citizens.
Human rights activist Gary Haugen is the closing speaker on April 24 at 1757 Golf Club.
