South Riding (April 19, 2012) - With local teacher and soccer coach Tim Lucas fighting stage four non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, the Freedom High School boys soccer team dedicated 50 percent of its 4x4 fundraising Soccerfest tournament last weekend to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society which has sponsored the chemotherapy treatments for Lucas.
With Lucas' medial bills already $50,000+ the team wanted to raise awareness and money for his fight with cancer.
Nearly $2,000 was raised for the cancer fight over the weekend and more donations are expected to arrive.
In addition to the tournament featuring JV and varsity players, there was a juggling and dribbling competition for local youth and adults, a fitness station run by a certified personal trainer and Oakley women's ambassador, and a spirit wear, donation, and concessions stand. 100% of all outside donations and raffle items went directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
