Richmond (Nov. 19, 2010) - Loudoun County High School swept Cave Spring Friday at VCU's Siegel Center to advance to the AA girls volleyball state title match for the fifth consecutive season. The Raiders will play Grafton Saturday at 5 p.m. in a bid to win a fourth consecutive state title.
The Raiders were able to shake off a slow start to sweep Cave Spring 25-23, 25-18, 25-16.
Just like in 2009, Loudoun County defeated Cave Spring in the semifinals, and just like in 2009 and 2007, they will face Grafton in the finals
The Raiders were led Friday to victory by Katrina Kirby (9 kills, 3 digs, 2 blocks), Rachel Arigo (8 kills, 5 digs, 1 block, 1 assist), Jenna Strange (7 kills, 11 digs, 2 blocks, 1 ace), Sammy Dormio (6 kills, 2 digs, 2 points), Maggie Phillips (5 kills, 2 digs, 1 assist), Taylor Huewe (4 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig), Colleen Bowlds (18 assists, 8 points, 4 digs, 2 aces), Jordan Leiter (17 assists, 14 points, 4 digs, 3 aces, 2 kills), Gabby Serafin (13 digs, 3 points, 1 ace), Kathleen Horvath (10 points, 6 digs, 5 aces).
County improves to 27-1 on the season and has won 23 straight matches. Loudoun County will face Grafton (a 3-1 winner over Hidden Valley) in the final for the 3rd time in 4 years.
